6 Eyebrow Grooming Mistakes You Probably Didn’t Know You’re Making

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, the eyebrows are its drapes. Everyone knows the importance of good drapes, curtains, and/or blinds and how one bad drape could mess up the entire room. The same principle applies to eyebrows which is why eyebrow grooming is pertinent to achieving a flawless face beat.

In the quest for the perfect eyebrows, some of us have gotten sidetracked by “so-called” trends and beauty fads. But perfectly groomed brows will always be timeless. Yes, the current makeup trend will come and go, but maintaining coordinated brows will always be a recipe to stay effortlessly on point. At this point, it’s important to note that eyebrow grooming isn’t for only women, and men can also benefit from a trim here and there. The goal should be to have a pair of neat brows, or should I say drapes?

Here are 6 mistakes you may be making while grooming your eyebrows…

#1. Trimming too thin

This isn’t the ’90s baby, natural brows are totally in. Therefore, it’s a big mistake to trim your brows till they become skinny. The point of a ‘trim’ isn’t to remove all the hair, but rather to make the brows more manageable. Simply put, a little snip here and there is really all you need.

#2. Plucking while your skin is dry

For your at-home brow grooming experience, you need to avoid the pain that comes with plucking, tweezing, and/or threading. The best way to get your brows in shape without the associated sting is to pluck/tweeze/tread immediately after a shower. This is because the warm water helps open up the follicles, which allows the hair to be pulled out much easier. In summary: get wet!

#3. Tweezing in random directions

If you see a tiny black hole where you just tweezed, it means you didn’t pluck the whole hair follicle. To prevent this next time, tweeze in the direction of your hair growth so you can capture the whole strand with ease.

#4. Ignoring the shape of your face

The secret to winning your brow game is to align your brows with the shape of your face. From when you’re grooming your eyebrows to when you’re filling it in, you should consider how your brows align with your facial structure.

The tried and proven way to get this done is to use a brow pencil to find the beginning, arch, and end of your brows. The beginning of your brow should start right where your nostril begins. Hold the pencil vertically against the bridge of your nose and on top of your nostril to help you find the starting point. To find your arch, place the pencil on the tip of your nose and angle it straight across your pupil. Finally, to find the end of your brow, simply take the pencil, at an angle, and place it against the end of your nose and eye.

#5. Grooming under poor lighting

To get perfectly groomed brows during your at-home DIY, you need good lighting. Yes, no lighting quite compares to the richness of the Sun, but an investment in a ring light can come in handy.

#6. Obsessing over making both eyebrows identical

I picked up this quote from a makeup artist during a shoot; she said “your eyebrows should be sisters and not twins.” In essence, all that time we spend obsessing about the perfect identical brows is just a waste of time. All that’s truly expected of you is to shape your brows in a way that ensures they start and end at generally the same points. Your face isn’t perfectly symmetrical, so honey, drop the tweezers and stop obsessing about brow symmetry.
