After her exit from the sensational girl group Fifth Harmony to start her journey and career as a solo artist, Normani has quickly become somewhat of a sensation. From the release of Love Lies (which has spent a surprising amount of time ranking high at the charts) with fellow artist Khalid, to her amazing live performance at the 2018 VMAs, which instantly went viral, to several collaborations with artists like Kehlani, Quavo, and Davido, Normani has had an amazing year and is still yet to release her debut album that is already rumoured to feature other top artists.
Normani’s recent collaboration with Calvin Harris has led to the creation of two amazing music masterpieces: Slow Down, which solely features Normani, and Checklist which has both Normani and Afropop star and legend, Wizkid. Both songs are sonically pleasing which doesn’t come off as a surprise, seeing that Calvin Harris is involved. Of course, he delivers – we expect nothing less when it comes to you, Mr Harris!
Slow Down – which has just Normani singing – is an RnB song that would have you enthralled from the very first sultry note; it is definitely a song that is easy to love. Checklist, on the other hand, is slightly more upbeat and faster than Slow Down, with both Normani and Wizkid delivering simple yet very strong vocal performances. Both Normani and Wizkid added a little Afropop spice to the arrangements.
