The Best Designs From Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week 2023 Shows

The fashion calendar shows little mercy as fans and industry insiders can both appreciate the relentless stream of heavy-hitting collections released back-to-back. Twice a year, couture week slows things down just a little so that the best of craftsmanship in the fashion industry can take center stage as we swoon in amazement. 2023 Haute Couture Fashion Week

The consistently creative Daniel Roseberry kicked things off for the Schiaparelli house, ushering in the fanciful and outlandish week of the fashion calendar in Paris. Always one to go all out, the designer put on a high-caliber showcase with his collection, which was apparently influenced by Dante’s Inferno. The shoulders and waists of tuxedos and pinstriped suits were oversized, and the waists and pants were nipped in; some bodices even reached over the models’ faces like vines.

Meanwhile, Dior unveiled a line of understated, ladylike designs inspired by Josephine Baker that are in line with Maria Grazia Chiuri’s vision for the company. The outfits stood out thanks to their subdued hues and traditional designs. They thought back to Baker’s definition of the 1920s through 1950s period. Elsewhere at Chanel, Virginie Viard adorned drop-waist gowns with tulle and Spectator-style boots with top hats and bow ribbons.

As the most recent guest designer for Jean Paul Gaultier, Haider Ackermann debuted on Wednesday, January 25, with a magnificent collection that merged Ackermann’s understated sense of style with the French couturier’s history of outrageous creations. The evening was completed with a visit to Valentino’s Le Club Couture, where Pierpaolo Piccioli crafted clubwear and ballroom attire to the highest standard.

The collections showcased were not the only objects of attraction at the just concluded Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2023 show. Celebrities also came clad in very dramatic and occasion-fitting outfits that were hard to miss. A strapless black velvet dress worn by Kylie Jenner, one of the most popular Instagram celebrities in the world, made its mark as she appeared at the Schiaparelli show that kicked off Couture Fashion Week. But more than anything else, the false lion head that was attached to the outfit became a social media sensation. The dress Jenner wore is a piece from the new collection.

For American rapper Doja Cat to make a statement during the Schiaparelli Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2023 show during Paris Fashion Week, glitter was possibly the best option. Schiaparelli claimed on its Instagram page that 30,000 Swarovski crystals were manually glued to produce the rapper’s striking appearance. The American artiste’s outfit was completed with a red silk faille bustier, a hand-knit skirt of lacquered wooden beads, and Trompe l’oeil toe boots. Pat McGrath, the creator of the look and renowned makeup artist, claimed that it took approximately five hours to accomplish.

From Jean Paul Gaultier to Schiaparelli, the stunning results in Paris speak for themselves and paint an optimistic picture of the future of couture.
