Come April 22, Swedish fashion giant H&M is set to release its collaboration with lemlem, the fashion brand by Ethiopian supermodel, actress and women empowerment advocate Liya Kebede. On the program, a capsule collection filled with colorful summer pieces will be made available online.

The collaboration between H&M and lemlem will feature all the signatures of the lemlem brand. The collection is said to be a globally-focused one that will reflect the hybrid nature of fashion at the moment; considering that customers are unsure of how their vacation, work and socializing plans will pan out this year.

H&M said it chose the label due to its “chic yet effortless aesthetic, easy-to-wear designs and artisanal details…there’s also a modern elegance that radiates from lemlem and Kebede herself.”

With several dresses, tops, pants, shorts, swimsuits, and for the very first time, a line of jewelry, Liya Kebede offers options to build up an absolute summer wardrobe. Designed in a circular approach, these pieces are intended to be passed on from generation to generation.

“I like that H&M is always at the forefront by offering really cool collaborations, so it’s very exciting that today lemlem is one of those brands,” says the model.

To stay true to the DNA of lemlem, the outfits are made from materials that H&M provided from more sustainable sources. Included are organic linen, recycled polyester, and Tencel Lyocell, a material produced from wood pulp. This is a good opportunity for H&M to reiterate its commitment to only use recycled or sustainable materials by 2030.

The collaboration will showcase traditional handwoven materials signature to the lemlem brand, as well as the house’s signature stripes and color-blocking with a color palette that includes a rich mix of blue, white, orange, pink, neon and yellow hues.

By founding Lemlem, Liya Kebede aimed to put the craftsmanship of her native Ethiopia in the spotlight. After the idea came to her in a market, the young woman met a group of traditional weavers who could not find a market for their crafts. These ancestral techniques are now at the heart of the brand. Each piece is handcrafted by artisans from several African countries, offering various designs and patterns, all made from Ethiopia’s natural cotton. The label has already won over many fashionistas. This collaboration with H&M will offer the brand a whole new clientele base.
