Gucci’s passion for art is nothing new and this love is evident in the brand’s Cruise 2020 collection. The venue was the Capitoline Museums of Rome founded in the 15th century, as Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s creative director showcased a collection that points a finger at prevarications, inequalities, denial and the withdrawal of rights.
The Gucci Cruise 2020 collection enhances individuality as Alessandro Michele transforms the clothes of his Gucci into words that describe and shape a sense of freedom of the past and shows the wounds of the present.
From a long red cape with gold embroidery at the hem to a white Grecian draped cream coloured dress, the Gucci Cruise 2020 collection also features ancient Greek-inspired looks. Clerical silhouettes, 70’s-inspired silhouettes and futuristic pieces like a white multi-tiered lace dress, suits with emphasized shoulders also brought the collection alive.
Slogans like “My Body, My Choice” and “May 22, 1978,” the date when abortion was legalized in Italy were aimed at establishing the brand’s stand on current social and political issues especially the ongoing abortion debate in the United States.
The use of rich fabrics like velvet, silk and wool was easily noticed in the collection. Geometric handbag designs, animal prints, faux fur, feathers, crystals, checkered prints and madras-print dresses also played their roles in the collection of many colours.
