Chicago rapper Vic Mensa has revealed that he became a father last year, introducing his newborn son, Mansa Musa Mensa, in a powerful new song. On Tuesday, February 4, Mensa shared the news that he and his longtime girlfriend, Melanie, welcomed their first child on May 10, 2024. In an interview with US Magazine, Mensa explained that he kept his son’s birth private to protect his family’s peace and enjoy his child’s infancy away from the public eye. To mark the announcement, the rapper released a music video for his song “I Wanna Be Ready,” in which he holds baby Mansa while rapping heartfelt verses.
Mensa, whose Ghanaian roots influenced his son’s name, expressed deep gratitude for fatherhood, calling it a manifestation of a decade-long dream. “I’ve been manifesting my son Mansa Musa Mensa for 10 years, speaking his name into existence and dreaming of him, praying for him,” he shared. He also spoke about his desire to introduce his son through music, emphasizing his belief in artistic expression as a powerful means of storytelling. Now eight months old, baby Mansa, affectionately nicknamed “Triple M,” is already responding to music, a passion his father is eager to nurture.

Nigerian music star Asake has kicked off 2025 with the release of a surprise single titled “Military,” addressing critics of his spoken English. The song comes shortly after his appearance at the 67th Grammy Awards, where he was nominated for Best African Music Performance. At the event, Asake made headlines by donning a full military camouflage outfit, which he later referenced in his red carpet interview. This defiant attitude carries over into “Military,” where he responds to scrutiny over his preference for singing in Yoruba and his perceived struggles with English.
On “Military,” Asake confidently dismisses his detractors, stating in a blend of Yoruba and rap that he feels more comfortable expressing himself in his native language. He also takes a bold stance, asserting his financial dominance over his peers while sampling 2Pac’s “Do For Love.” Additionally, he pays tribute to his former YBNL label boss, Olamide. Released exclusively on Audiomack, “Military” marks Asake’s first track of the year and sets the stage for another eventful run in the mainstream music scene.

Dutch footballer Memphis Depay has received a suspended four-month prison sentence after being caught drunk driving a Rolls-Royce in Monaco. The Corinthians winger was stopped by police for reckless driving in the early hours of August 6, 2023, with tests revealing an alcohol level of 1.01 mg per liter of exhaled air—well above the legal limit. Depay was not present in court as Monaco authorities handed down the sentence, which also includes a €2,000 fine and a two-year driving ban in the principality.
The 30-year-old former Manchester United and Barcelona player admitted to the charges and expressed remorse at the time of his arrest. However, he has two weeks to appeal the ruling. Despite the legal setback, Depay remains focused on his football career with Corinthians, where he aims to improve his goal-scoring record. His next opportunity to impress comes when the Brazilian club faces Palmeiras later this week.
