he air was pink, both in hue and vibe—and the feminine urge to unlock your inner Barbie and let your girlie side make rounds was heavy last week. There were also bouts of preppy coordinations, summery bursts of colors, and distinguished renderings that were as refined as they were bubbly. The best looks spotted leaned towards a sophisticated slant. Each woman sprinkled pixie dust into her look, and like magic, it became a charming sight!
The Looks
We always knew Skai Jackson was a real-life Barbie and can pass for a doll. The star brought this energy last week to the Barbie Movie Premiere in a preppy Keburia look that was a welcome armistice from the ocean of pink-themed getups. The mini set flaunted an optical illusion design with prominent buttons and a subtle check print. And for a girly pinch, she added a bow, mini purse, and old Hollywood hair to the mix.
There are tour looks, and then there’s Beyoncé churning out embodiments of showmanship in every take and note. The queen has indeed owned every outfit. From the plethora of ensembles that Beyoncé donned last week, the black and metallic Valdrin Sahiti dress was in a class of its own. She sported this imperial frock to the Shawn Carter Foundation gala. It’s officially Bey season.
One thing about Issa Rae is that she’s going to show up and out. The actress could spend months away from the social streets, red carpets, and even the limelight, and the next thing you know, she’s on our timelines serving hot shots that give exactly what they set out to give. At the Barbie photocall in London, Rae opted for a geometric print mini dress by PatBo that’s every inch as dolly as the iconic doll. Oh, and don’t get me started on the feathered hem that was a showstopper all on its own. That’s how you make an appearance.
