Set to take place on Thursday, December 3, the British Fashion Council has announced that the 2020 Fashion Awards will be replaced by a digital event. This means there will be no red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall but we trust celebrities to attend online and still make it fashion!

The Fashion Awards is an annual global celebration of creativity and innovation. For the 2020 Fashion Awards, the council will not be awarding Brand of the Year, Best British Womenswear Designer, and Designer of the Year, awards. Rather, the winners will be twenty brands and individuals who will receive a ‘2020 Fashion Award.’ These will be awarded to those who have inspired with their leadership, innovation, and humanitarian response, not just to the pandemic but to social justice and positive change.

According to the statement by the British Fashion Council,

“The Fashion Awards 2020 will honor and celebrate the designers, brands, creatives, and individuals who have created positive change within the fashion industry this year; from those who bravely faced this challenging period with pro-active responses to the global pandemic, showed leadership and creative resilience, to the ones who stood up against prejudice within the fashion industry and fight for change. The BFC is looking to shine a spotlight on those who made humanitarian efforts, adapted their business models, and responded to their community’s needs.”

Also, the ‘New Wave: Creatives’ award list, which is now in its third year, will make a return, and the focus will be on those designers that have shown resilience and innovation in the face of crisis and made meaningful changes. However, a physical Fashion Awards event is set to return for Monday, November 29, 2021. The ceremony will be reimagined to reflect the BFC’s new mission and with the ambition to have technology and engagement at its heart, looking at innovations for amplification and new experiences.
