Edgier Alternatives Made Up The Offerings Of TOKYO JAMES’ Day 3 Collection | #HLFW18

Earlier this year at the Arise Fashion Week, in April to be precise, British-Nigerian fashion house, Tokyo James teased fashion faithfuls with a full womenswear collection. Of course, this came after the brand had presented a range of menswear designs. This outing stood out because the brand had barely participated in anything that features the female gender until April. However, it hit a home run with a combined collection that featured edgy pieces for both genders on Day 3 of the 2018 Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week.

The brand’s creative designer, Tokyo James, who began his career as a fashion stylist in London has truly harnessed his skills since joining the fashion industry as a designer in 2015. His latest collection stays true to the emphasis on the use of traditional techniques and clean lines, although it is edgier with a prevalent use of leather.

For its latest collection, Tokyo James introduced a full womenswear collection that was a hybrid of experiences and influences. The variation of textures and a dynamic range of colours allowed for pieces that were refreshingly notable; think classic cuts with contemporary aesthetics. Singer Seyi Shay closed the show in an alternative workwear, if you may. The knee length leather coat dress had cut-outs on each side of the waist that guarantees to have heads turning.

On the menswear angle, the brand offered designs with an obvious fluidity that was apparent as the models walked down the runway. Although there wasn’t much play on proportions, fans of the brand were definitely impressed with the turn out of the collection.

Here are select looks from the collection…
