1. Eddie Murphy and Paige Butcher are married after a six-year engagement

After six years of engagement, comedic legend Eddie Murphy and his longtime partner, Paige Butcher, are officially married. The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony on July 9 in the idyllic Caribbean island of Anguilla. The intimate affair was attended by close friends and family, marking a joyous celebration for the couple who have been together since 2012. Butcher, a stunning Australian model, looked radiant in a lace-adorned corseted gown by Mira Zwillinger, while Murphy complemented her in a classic white Brioni suit.

The couple share two children together, a daughter Izzy, and a son Max. Murphy also has ten other children from previous relationships. This marks the second marriage for Murphy, who was previously married to Nicole Murphy from 1993 to 2006. For Butcher, it is her first marriage.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

2. Donald Trump survives assassination attempt at a campaign rally after a major security lapse

In a shocking turn of events, former U.S. President Donald Trump was shot in the ear in an attempted assassination during a campaign rally on Saturday, an incident that is expected to significantly impact the current U.S. presidential race and raise critical questions about the security provided to the Republican candidate. The incident occurred as Trump was addressing a large crowd of supporters. In the moments following the shooting, Trump’s security agents quickly surrounded and shielded him. Despite the chaos, he emerged from the protective circle with his face streaked with blood.

The Trump campaign later issued a statement saying that the former President was “doing well” and had sustained no major injuries apart from a wound on his upper right ear. Early Sunday morning, the FBI identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the “subject involved” in what they have termed an attempted assassination. State voter records indicate that Crooks was a registered Republican.

The Secret Service reported that Crooks was shot dead by their agents after he opened fire from the roof of a building approximately 140 meters from the stage where Trump was speaking. An AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle was recovered near his body. Tragically, the attack also claimed the life of one rally attendee and left two other spectators critically wounded, according to the Secret Service.

3. Rema performs at Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s son’s wedding

Afrobeats sensation, Rema has once again cemented his status as a global music icon after delivering a show-stopping performance at the lavish wedding of Anant Ambani, son of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani. The star-studded event, which took place in Mumbai, India, saw a plethora of international celebrities grace the stage, but it was Rema’s electrifying rendition of his hit song, “Calm Down,” that truly captured the audience’s attention.

Rema was reportedly paid $3 Million, making him the highest-paid African artist for an event. The Nigerian singer-songwriter commanded the stage with his signature energy, leaving the high-profile guests, including Bollywood stars and global dignitaries, singing and dancing along. Rema’s performance was a fusion of African rhythms and contemporary sounds, showcasing the global appeal of Afrobeats. The wedding, which spanned several days, was a grand affair marked by opulence and extravagance.

4. Davido launches new social media app

Nigerian music superstar Davido has ventured into the tech world, launching a new social media app called Chatter. Davido, who co-owns the app with his friend, Sir Banko, announced the launch on his social media handles on July 11, sharing the app’s backstory and features. Chatter is designed to empower content creators by connecting them with a vibrant community and providing a platform to amplify their voices. Also, beyond content creators, the app also caters to business-minded individuals seeking connections.

This marks Davido’s third online project in eight months, following the launch of his cryptocurrency, $DAVIDO coin. Unfortunately, the coin crashed days later, sparking controversy among crypto enthusiasts.

5. Cristiano Ronaldo is named alongside Liverpool and Arsenal stars in worst XI of Euro 2024

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Euro 2024 campaign has taken a further hit after the Portuguese superstar was named in a combined worst XI of the tournament, alongside Premier League stars from Liverpool and Arsenal. The 39-year-old, who was unable to inspire Portugal to glory, found himself in the unenviable position of being selected for a team comprised of players who struggled to make a significant impact on the competition. Ronaldo shared the spotlight with Oleksandr Zinchenko of Arsenal and Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool, both of whom faced criticism for their performances during the tournament.

The inclusion of these high-profile names in the worst XI has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike, with many questioning the criteria used to select the team. Portugal’s early exit from the tournament undoubtedly contributed to Ronaldo’s inclusion, as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner failed to replicate his previous tournament heroics.
