ollywood heavyweight, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has tackled everything from professional wrestling to blockbuster movies, and now he’s setting his sights on the skin care industry with his new line, “Papatui.” That’s right, gents. The one-time ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ wants to help you step up your grooming game with his line of affordable personal care products.
Like all exceptional brands available today, Papatui has a backstory. And yes, it involves the gym!“What I have found over the years is I get a lot of questions from men constantly. ‘Tell me about your workout. Tell me about your daily routine. What are your cheat meals? What is your diet?… But on the skin side, I realized over the years that dudes are still pulling me aside and having this sidebar conversation about skincare and grooming,” Johnson explains in an interview. To promote the idea of men taking care of their skin, he contemplated creating products that “would tap into men’s needs, men’s care, grooming, trust, and some equity.”
Out of those hushed ‘sidebar conversations’ and the efforts of “a group of very highly talented scientists and skin care experts,” comes Patapui, a brand-new skin care, hair care, and body care line for men comprising 12 products. Even more exciting, each product is priced under $10. The range of products in Dwayne Johnson’s skincare and grooming line debuts with a collection separated into three categories. The first, for the face, guides men through the usage of products such as a hydrating facial cleanser, a facial toner, a daily facial moisturizer, and an eye gel. The second includes body wash, bar soap, a 2-in-1 nourishing shampoo and conditioner, and a 48-hour antiperspirant. Lastly, for body care, there’s 24-hour body lotion, tattoo stick, tattoo balm, and 48-hour aluminum-free deodorant.
As to how Dwayne Johnson came up with the ‘Papatui’ skincare line, it goes as far back as his childhood. Johnson says he derived the brand’s name from his Samoan grandfather, the High Chief Peter Maivia. “My grandfather was one of my heroes,” he said. “His nickname for me was ‘Tui.’ And I thought, Okay, let’s start there. There’s something interesting there.” On the “Papa” side, “I’m a proud girl dad. I have three daughters, house full of estrogen, and my favorite role is being a dad. So Papa.” And then he started to realize that, “Oh my God, this is all coming together in a kismet way. Papa in Samoan means rock,” he added. “I wanted to honor these anchors in my life. Thus, Papatui.”
Dwayne Johnson announced the launch of Papatui on Thursday, March 7 via social media. The entire assortment is available now via the brand’s website (papatui.com) and at Target stores.
