For their 2020 cruise collection show at the El Badi Palace in Marrakech on Monday, 29 April, Dior gave its audience a magical display in the form of a tribute to different cultures that meet and find community through craftsmanship.
Now, Dior is not one to settle for mediocrity and for the presentation of this collection, it was obvious that they really thought about the details. From an aircraft to the palace’s epic pool adorned by a large bonfire and thousands of glowing torches, every element made you want to take a cruise to the Moroccan city.

Maria Grazia Chiuri, the creative designer for Dior, has long admired the African craft and how humans are influenced by various cultural traditions around the world. The 2020 cruise collection is a tribute between the experiences of the fashion house and various African artists and craftsmen.
The collection gave an interpretation of two of Dior’s signature motifs, Toile de Jouy and Tarot cards. The motifs were on fabrics that were designed and produced as 100 per cent African wax print in Abidjan, Ivory Coast by local studio/atelier, Uniwax.
The 2020 cruise collection by Dior showcased over 100 outfits with silhouettes that had been given a cooler edge in African wax prints. There were strapless empire-waist dresses tied with a delicately fringed twist at the bust; cropped trousers under moulded jackets; ponchos and flowing silk gowns with keyhole necklines; lacy white dresses and Murano-glass-sprinkled embroidery and more.
