The 2019 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner is Christopher John Rogers, who will be taking home the grand prize of $400,000. The fast-rising designer got a standing ovation at his New York Fashion Week runway debut and has dressed icons such as Michelle Obama, Rihanna, Lizzo and Tracee Ellis Ross.
Christopher John Rogers now joins the class of fashion designers like Telfar, Pyer Moss, Brother Vellies, Public School and others who previously earned the award. In addition to the award prize, he also gets a year of mentorship from a CFDA member. This is a great deal for the 25-year-old and can really move his career forward.
Christopher John Rogers is known for his structured pieces, voluminous ensembles, and eclectic wear, and for early followers of his brand, it’s no surprise he is taking home the 2019 CFDA Fund.
Previous winners of the prestigious award like Pyer Moss and Telfar Clemens, who won the prize in 2018 and 2017 respectively, both saw their brands expand in popularity as a result. Telfar’s “Shopping Bag” was even named the must-have accessory of 2019.
“I am so grateful to my parents for giving up so much that allowed me to be here, to my team who, through all the full-time jobs and all the leaving early, allow us to make this collection, and thank you to the judges for seeing something in me,” Christopher Rogers said in his acceptance speech after winning the CFDA fund.
“This is the physical manifestation of the prayers and sacrifices of my forefathers. God, the universe, my family, my TEAM, the judges. Thank you, endlessly,” Rogers wrote on an Instagram post.
Runner-ups for the fund included Danielle Hirsch of Danielle Frankel and Reese Cooper who will both be receiving $150,000 each and a year of mentorship. Hirsch is the CVFF’s first-ever bridalwear finalist.
