1. Childish Gambino releases new album “Atavista” and announces world tour

In a move that surprised hip-hop lovers, Childish Gambino dropped a new album on Monday, May 13, titled “Atavista.” The album is a revamped version of “3.15.20,” his earlier release that debuted in March 2020 and has now been taken down from music streaming sites. “Atavista” features familiar faces like Young Nudy, Summer Walker, and 21 Savage, as well as Ariana Grande, Ink, and Kadhja Bonet, who were on the original version. Childish Gambino shared the news of the album’s release on social media, calling it the “complete” version of his 2020 work, and he included a new song titled “Little Foot Big Foot.”

Along with the new album, Childish Gambino announced his big return to touring with “The New World Tour.” He’ll touch down in cities across North America, Australia, the UK, and Europe from 2024 to 2025. This tour marks his first since 2019 and kicks off on August 11 in Oklahoma City, making stops in Kansas City, Milwaukee, Detroit, and more across the US. Then, the rapper will head to the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, wrapping up his tour in 2025.

2. Burna Boy gifts mom Mercedes-Benz Maybach for Mother’s Day

Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy made headlines this Mother’s Day with his incredibly generous gift to his mom, Bose Ogulu. The Grammy-winning artist treated his mom to a special dinner, where they enjoyed a meal in the company of friends. However, the true highlight of the special day awaited outside the restaurant—a stunning Mercedes-Benz Maybach.

Videos capturing the heartwarming moment show Ogulu’s delight and appreciation for her son’s extravagance. This lavish gift is a testament to the strong bond the superstar shares with his mother, who has been a pillar of support throughout his music journey.

3. Giuseppe Zanotti and Mary J. Blige launch ‘The Mary Boot’

Music icon Mary J. Blige teamed up with renowned footwear designer Giuseppe Zanotti to launch a limited-edition boot collection. The centerpiece, aptly named “The Mary Boot,” embodies the signature styles of the singer and the shoemaker. Inspired by the custom boots Blige wore at her recent Strength of a Woman Festival, the boot features a striking, slouchy silhouette and a reflective rose gold finish.

This powerhouse collaboration merges Blige’s long-standing love for statement boots with Zanotti’s commitment to innovative design and high-quality materials. Priced at $1,295, “The Mary Boot” is available for purchase online and at select Giuseppe Zanotti boutiques. The footwear giant announced the collaboration on social media: “Giuseppe Zanotti and Mary J. Blige have transformed their longtime friendship into an exclusive, limited-edition collaboration. Introducing “The Mary Boot,” a stunning over-the-knee boot co-designed by the two talents.”

4. Sarkodie fired shots at Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy in new single ‘Brag’

Ghana’s rap king, Sarkodie, has ignited a firestorm with his latest single, “Brag.” The song, a boastful anthem as the title suggests, features lyrics that many perceive as shots fired at Afrobeats stars, Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy. Sarkodie claims to have been in the game when the others were just starting out, referencing his accomplishments like selling out the O2 Arena years before them. This has sparked debate and divided opinions online, with some praising Sarkodie’s confidence and others criticizing the diss-track nature of the lyrics. One thing’s for sure: “Brag” has become a major conversation starter in the Afrobeats scene.

5. Olivier Giroud announces AC Milan exit in emotional message

French soccer star, Olivier Giroud has announced his departure from AC Milan to join Major League Soccer (MLS) in the summer, with a confirmed move to LAFC. This comes after four years in Milan, having joined them from Chelsea in 2021. Giroud had a great season in 2023–24, scoring 14 goals and making eight assists in Serie A. His move to the LAFC will be significant, as the American side has been in search of a strong forward since Carlos Vela, a former MLS MVP, left last summer.

Giroud will team up with Denis Bouanga, who won the MLS Golden Boot in 2023, forming a powerful attacking duo. Additionally, he’ll reunite with his longtime friend and former France teammate, Hugo Lloris, in Los Angeles. Giroud also stated that his last two matches for Milan this season will be his final games before he heads to MLS. While he hasn’t officially announced LAFC as his next stop, many reports have confirmed that he’s joining the Los Angeles team.
