Burna Boy is set to make history by becoming the first African artist to perform at the Grammy Awards live event, according to an announcement made on January 22. This is another landmark feat for the Nigerian superstar, who holds the record of being the first Nigerian artist operating within the Nigerian music industry to win a Grammy when he won it in 2021 for Best Global Album for his fifth album, “Twice As Tall.”

At the 2024 Grammys scheduled for February 4, Burna Boy is nominated in four categories, which is a Nigerian record for most nominations in a Grammy year. Among his nominations is Best Melodic Rap Performance for his single “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” featuring 21 Savage, which makes him the first Nigerian lead artist to be nominated outside of the global categories. Burna Boy’s performance at the 2024 Grammys is the second time he will be performing at a Grammys event after he performed at the 2021 Grammys Premiere show.

2. Andra Day to perform the Black National Anthem at Super Bowl LVIII

Last week, news dropped that Grammy-winning singer Andra Day would perform the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” during the game’s pre-show. Game day will be an evening of Black excellence as the song will be produced and arranged by Grammy- and Emmy-winning musical director and producer Adam Blackstone. Super Bowl LVIII will be played on Sunday, February 11, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

News dropped on Friday, January 19, that singer Charlie Wilson will be acknowledged with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, January 29 at 11:30 a.m. PST at 6201 Hollywood Boulevard. This milestone will also take place on Wilson’s birthday. This will be a star-studded event slated to be attended by Babyface, who got his star in October 2013, along with Snoop Dogg, who got his star five years later, in November 2018. A huge congratulations to Charlie Wilson on this feat.

5. Giannis Antetokounmpo to debut documentary on Prime Video in February

Greek-Nigerian basketball star Giannis Antetokounmpo has announced the debut of the documentary film “Giannis: The Marvelous Journey” on Prime Video. The Milwaukee Bucks player also shared that he is launching a new media company with his family called Improbable Media on X. Antetokounmpo expressed his excitement, stating, “Proud to announce the launch of @ImprobableMedia with my family and our first feature-length production.
