Fireboy DML Wants The New York City Girl + More African Songs The Music Industry Blessed Us With This Week

Fireboy DML New York City Girl African Music

As music listening habits become more tailored to specific African genres, it’s easier than ever to miss a new song.

Unless it gets put in constant rotation on the radio or TV, earns a highly coveted spot on your favorite African music charts, or pops up on the soundtrack to that hot new TV show on YouTube or Netflix, most music – even from big African artists – go unnoticed for the casual music fan. Thankfully, we’ve got you covered. Below, you’ll find five new songs of the moment that are worth taking time out of your busy day to listen to.

Check out the five hottest African songs the music industry blesses us with this week…

1. Burna Boy – Wonderful

Nigeria’s Afro-fusion sensation, Burna Boy spills a brand new vibe, a new direction of music that engages you from deep within. Unanimously African, this is a song of pride that reminds you that wherever you are, as you hustle and as you go about your business, when all goes wrong, you can always come back home and start all over again because home is where the heart is.

OluwaBurna, as he’s fondly called, goes poetic when he says the motherland is home, because ‘my mother is at home‘ and home is where the family is.

Wonderful is a song that makes you proud to be black and African. Africa is a continent of rhythm and sounds; of movement and synergy and this samba-sounding track has encapsulated these features that represent the pure African sound.

2. Moonchild Sanelly – Bashiri

South Africa’s Moonchild Sanelly’s new single, Bashiri, is probably the most explanatory examples of her creativity yet, combining the skippy rhythms of the Swahili sound, gqom, but adding a full-bodied rave sound beneath her soothing vocals. Supported by a psychedelic visual, the South African artist tells a tale warning of the snake oil salesmen that often hide behind faith to take advantage of the people.

3. Fireboy DML – New York City Girl

Rising Nigerian artist Fireboy DML shares his latest music New York City Girl along with a Clarence Peters directed video. The bubbly tune, produced by Type A, is a fan favorite that’s been talked about a lot on social media since its release. It’s about a sweet summer romance Fireboy experiences while on a trip to NYC.

4. Prettyboy D-O ft Olamide – Wetin you smoke

Versatile and talented Nigerian Singer Prettyboy D-O teams up with YBNL CEO and rapper Olamide on this one titled Wetin You Smoke. This groovy track is off his recently released project titled Wildfire. This jam, Wetin You Smoke was produced by Telz.

5. Wande Coal – Naughty Girl

After the huge success of his last single Again Wande Coal comes through with another potential banger Hit dubbed Naughty Girl. On this new song, Wande Coal teamed up with Pheelz, and they both created magic on this addictive Afropop song. The song is a follow up to Again; the girl that was looking like a sweet Angel turns out to be a Naughty wild girl.
