Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy has solidified his status as the country’s leading Billboard Hot 100 artist, setting a new record with the most entries on the prestigious chart. The Port Harcourt-born megastar earned his sixth entry on the chart through his feature on Coldplay’s “We Pray,” alongside British-Nigerian rapper Little Simz. The song debuted at No. 87 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of October 19. Burna Boy’s chart success has been steadily climbing since his breakout hit “YE,” with his highest-ranking entry being “Last Last,” which peaked at No. 44 and spent 19 weeks on the chart.
Burna Boy’s achievement places him ahead of fellow Nigerian stars, including Grammy-winning singer Tems, who has logged five entries, and Wizkid, who boasts four. Other notable Nigerian artists like Rema, CKay, Fireboy, Davido, and Lojay have each made their mark on the chart with a single entry, further cementing Afrobeats’ growing influence on the global music scene.

Hip Hop icon 50 Cent is set to kick off 2025 in style with a brand-new residency in Las Vegas. The rapper took to Instagram on Tuesday, October 15, to announce his “In Da Club” residency at Planet Hollywood’s PH Live venue. Fans can look forward to six performances spanning December 2024 and January 2025, with one show coinciding with New Year’s Eve. This marks 50 Cent’s first Vegas residency, and he’s making sure it’s an event not to be missed, writing, “You don’t wanna miss this!” The residency is reported to earn him a cool $15 million, according to reports.
This announcement follows the conclusion of 50 Cent’s highly successful “Final Lap Tour” earlier this year. The global tour saw the rapper team up with legends like Busta Rhymes and Tony Yayo, and featured surprise appearances from stars such as Eminem, Nas, and Tyga. The tour hit stages across North America, Europe, Australia, Asia, and the Middle East, further cementing 50’s legacy as a top performer.

South African pop sensation Tyla has achieved another major milestone as her self-titled debut album, “Tyla,” has officially gone gold in the United States. The 22-year-old singer-songwriter took to X to celebrate the accomplishment, writing, “MY ALBUM WENT GOLDDDDDD.” The album, which was released in March 2024, has sold over 500,000 units in North America, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Tyla’s success extends beyond the U.S., as her debut album was also certified platinum in Brazil in September 2024. The young artist’s achievements include a Grammy Award win this year, further solidifying her place on the global stage. Tyla is set to return to South Africa in December for a highly anticipated tour, with scheduled performances in Pretoria and Cape Town.
4. Chris Brown responds to petition to ban his SA concerts

Chris Brown has responded defiantly to efforts by the South African women’s rights group, Women For Change, to have his upcoming concerts in Johannesburg cancelled. The group started a petition urging Big Concerts, the organizers, and the South African government to cancel the singer’s December 14 and 15 performances at FNB Stadium. Citing his history of violence against women, including the 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna, the petition has gained over 30,000 signatures. Women For Change also called on the Department of Home Affairs to revoke Brown’s visa, arguing that his presence in the country is inappropriate given his alleged abusive behavior.
In response to the petition, Brown took to social media, showing no signs of backing down. On Monday, he commented on Women For Change’s Instagram post, writing, “Can’t wait to come,” signaling his intention to perform despite the controversy. The singer further posted a picture of himself wearing a balaclava with South African print on his timeline, captioned, “I’m stepping on sh*t,” in what appears to be a direct challenge to his critics. While tickets for his December 15 concert have already sold out, the campaign to cancel his shows continues to gather momentum.

— Sky Sports WSL (@SkySportsWSL) October 15, 2024
Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall has resigned after a disappointing start to the 2024-25 Women’s Super League (WSL) season, with the team sitting in sixth place. Eidevall, who had been in charge since 2021, saw his side win just one of their opening four league matches and suffer a heavy 5-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. His final match, a 2-1 home loss to Chelsea, marked the end of his tenure. Assistant coach Renee Slegers will step in as interim head coach, with her first game coming against Norwegian side Valerenga in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Arsenal’s sporting director Eduardo César Daud Gaspar expressed gratitude for Eidevall’s contributions, stating, “We thank Jonas for his commitment to the club and achievements here since joining us in 2021.” Eidevall led Arsenal to back-to-back Women’s League Cup titles and consecutive top-three WSL finishes. Despite his recent contract extension last October, a string of poor results led to his departure. Eduardo also confirmed the club’s focus on finding a new permanent head coach, while Slegers prepares to lead the team in upcoming matches.
