Grammy-winning Nigerian megastar Burna Boy is one of the headliners for Afro Nation’s maiden event in Nigeria, the organizers announced on Tuesday, September 26. The musician, who headlined the 2023 Afro Nation in Miami, would be bringing his stellar stagecraft to his home country.

Another headliner for the event is Gambian-British rapper J Hus, who’s one of the biggest hip-hop stars in the United Kingdom. This would mark his first show for the global festival brand since his 2019 debut in Portugal. Also announced in the first line-up of performers are highlife singer Flavour, award-winning street sensation Seyi Vibez, and breakout Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif. More line-up announcements are still to come ahead of the landmark show, according to Afro Nation.

Tory Lanez is providing an update for his fans in his first message from behind bars. On Monday, September 25, the Toronto rapper relayed a voice memo from his Instagram and seemed positive about his situation. “Ay Umbrellas, man. What’s good? I’m talking to you live from prison right now. Man, I’m just happy to get out from that b******t county jail. They was hating on a young fly n***a, ya heard?” he began the message. “Had me on 24-hour lockdown. Half-sized cell by myself. No windows, no mirrors. Ain’t even see himself in a whole year yo.”

Lanez, who was sentenced to a decade in prison last month after shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in 2020, was reported to be “scared for his life and safety in prison.” “He feels like he is an instant and direct target because of his celebrity status,” a source told the outlet. Lanez is imprisoned at the North Kern State Prison in Delano, California.

Zoleka Mandela, a noted author and the granddaughter of Nelson Mandela, has passed away due to cancer. She was 43. Her family confirmed that she died “surrounded by friends and family” on Monday, September 25, after an 11-year battle with the disease. Last week, she was admitted to the hospital for further treatment after scans revealed “significant” progress in the cancer that affected her hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain, and spinal cord. “Zoleka passed away… surrounded by friends and family,” said family spokesperson Zwelabo Mandela.

The statement also shared the family’s “sincerest gratitude to the medical team that took care of her.” Mandela, who was the youngest daughter of Zindzi Mandela and her first husband, Zwelibanzi Hlongwane, was honored with a tribute from the Nelson Mandela Foundation on Facebook. “The Nelson Mandela Foundation extends its heartfelt condolences to the Mandela family on the passing of Zoleka Mandela, tragically last night,” the post read.

4. Tems steals the night at the 2023 DStv Delicious festival

Tems stole the night with her performance at the 2023 DStv Delicious Festival which was held in South Africa from September 23 to 24. It was a night to remember for fans who had attended when Tems took to the stage, and as many would say, the rest was history as the singer became the most talked about act of the event.

Tems dominated the headlines for the right reasons as she delivered what we would like to call a performance of a lifetime; what made the moment special was the love South Africans had shown for the singer during her performance on the first night of the festival. The singer had fans singing word for word some of her biggest hits, and it was a remarkable experience, one she appreciated so much that she took to her social media platforms to personally thank the fans for their support.

5. England winger Bukayo Saka out of EFL Cup tie with foot injury

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka will miss his side’s Carabao Cup tie at Brentford on Wednesday and could also be out of Saturday’s league game at Bournemouth. The 22-year-old England winger suffered a foot injury in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday and was replaced by Emile Smith Rowe just before the final whistle. “He was limping quite badly after the match,” said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. “We had to get him off the field, which is never a good sign.” Asked if Saka could miss the Premier League match at Bournemouth, Arteta added, “It’s a possibility, yes.”

The forward has scored four goals and registered three assists in seven games in the Premier League and Champions League this season. If Saka does miss the game against the Cherries, it will end his club-record run of 86 consecutive Premier League appearances.
