The island of Trinidad and Tobago was abuzz with wide smiles, loud noises, colourful costumes, dancing, singing and a lot of fun as they marked yet another year of celebration with a carnival. The cultural event took place on Monday, February 12th and came to a close on Tuesday and as expected participants of the celebration were seen in colourful costumes and elaborate decorations. Nigeria’s own DJ Cuppy was there to join in the tradition that celebrates the origin of the “calypso” which was a way the slaves in the 17th century mocked their slave masters.
In today’s world, the Trinidad and Tobago carnival has been taken over by SOCA, a different type of sound, but still the activities of the event are still maintained as musical competitions represent a large part of the carnival.
