T

he highly anticipated first Monday of May came knocking loudly and celebrities were eager to answer in mesmerizing costumes as the MET returned to its usual date. Yes, the 2022 Met Gala certainly fulfilled the “Gilded Glamour” promise. Black stars entered the group chat with an abundance of trains, tulles, and embellishments—all heavily adorned in nothing short of showstopping ensembles. Meanwhile, in Nigeria, celebrities stepped out for the Blood Sisters movie premiere clad to the T in celebration of the first Nigerian Netflix original series. The month of May may not be popular on the fashion calendar, but it’s sure proving itself to be nearly as important as February and September. black women fashion

The looks

Queen of the Concrete Jungle, Alicia Keys, expressed her love for New York City in a black and silver Ralph Lauren masterpiece. The heavily gilded crystal dress was a connotation of the city’s famous skyline, and she carried this message with poise. An apt way to interpret the “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” theme flawlessly. In other words, Ralph Lauren and his team are absolute geniuses.

Singer Chloe Bailey understood the gilded glamour assignment as she showed up for the Mets in a paillette sculpted number by Area. The look executed a modern interpretation of the theme and stayed on course.

Over in Nigeria, Blood Sisters star, Inidima Okojie attended the aforementioned Nollywood series, themed: “Red and Fugitive” in a red hot look by Nigerian designer Derin Fabikun. The exaggerated sleeves and hem slit on the pants were bound to keep the star as the diamond of the night.
