Life is a fashion show. Sometimes you stride confidently and other times, you just sit and watch others display—either way, we continue to make an art of fashion consciously or unconsciously. Last week, Black celebs and top influencers showed up in vibrant and whimsical looks that kept the fashion game alive. While the holiday bug’s bite may be easing, the luxurious fabrics, form-fitting ensembles, and creative styling are still making unadulterated fashion statements.
The looks
For some, the cozy weather freezes their style inspiration, and winter isn’t their favorite time of the year. However, Zendaya begs to differ in hot, cold, or in-between seasons. Her stylist Luxury Law, on the other hand, remains buoyant with creative ways to pull off chic and warmth effortlessly. Zendaya passed the vibe check-in a Csiriano neutral-toned two-piece. The wide-legged pants, comfy turtleneck top, and a quilt-like wrap were certainly perfect for the weather. She accompanied that with a bag that brought color and calm all at once. They say once a stunner, always a stunner, and surely, Zendaya embodies this philosophy.
Florals in the middle of winter, that’s how Hollywood actress Tracee Ellis Ross rolls. With ABC’s Black-ish show winding down, there have been lots of press appearances for the crew, and it’s not foreign for Ms. Ross to render looks that complement her personality. Last week, she was full of grace in a Roberto Cavali floral SS22 RTW number, which she paired nicely with LongChamp shoes at a virtual appearance for “Live with Kelly and Ryan”. Give her her flowers, she is well deserving.
It’s funny how an LBD has been one of the most raved-about wardrobe pieces, and human nature still accommodates it with open arms. Lots of pieces have had their moments and slowly stepped back to the sidewalks, but not the little black dress. From era to era, they hold still, and when we spotted this Allysee black swan dress on Nigerian artiste Tiwa Savage, we were reminded why this classic wardrobe staple constantly lives among us. From the pearl neckpiece to the silver accessories, the assignment was understood.
The styles shared by Black celebrities and top fashion influencers last week were nothing short of chic, edgy, and glamorous, and it’s safe to say that we are, as usual, living vicariously through them. Black style queens.
