Is Black Beauty Definite? A Look At Last Week’s Best Beauty Looks

At Style Rave, we aim to inspire our readers by…
O
ver the past decades, the traditional standards of beauty have not only been questioned, but also changed. Gone are the days when Black women had to fit into a box of what was termed beautiful as they tried so hard for their individuality to be accepted. Certainly not! Today, women of color have shown that beauty is as diverse as we all are and hence, cannot be given a definition. When you take a stroll through the streets of New York, or a run on the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge in Lagos, you’ll be graced with a hard-to-explain submersion into beauty. Beauty like only a black woman can give. This rang true last week as Black women across continents defined beauty in their own terms. Black beauty looks.
Makeup
Great skin will never go out of style. Don’t believe me? Ask Justine Skye who served skin goals for days in a post she shared on Instagram last week. Her almost nonexistent makeup look was undoubtedly enough for us to behold her skin game in all its glory. Of course, little make-up doesn’t mean no make-up. The singer played up her eyes with just the right amount of mascara and her lips with a simple gloss. This is surely what the experts meant when they said less is more. Black beauty looks.
Hair
They said the assignment was African-inspired and Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade, aka Mama Africa, fulfilled it. In the music video for her new release, Sweety, the hitmaker embodied the beauty of our collective heritage–Africa. In the video, she is spotted in a sleek and voluminous up-do with two strands of braids gracing the sides. There’s no denying the love Yemi surely has for the motherland. Black beauty looks.
