Last Week’s Best Dressed Stars Played Couture To Perfection

An imagination remains so until the bold dares to translate it into our realm. The past week witnessed a downpour of creative attires with a disdain for the ordinary. From embellished capes to intriguing silhouettes and colors dancing in symphony, Black celebs submitted looks that vibrated with much gusto. We can credit the 77th “Festival de Cannes” for these head-turning ensembles that had a great deal of impact on both our timelines and mood boards.

Kelly Rowland’s squabble with a security guard at the Cannes Film Festival broke the internet, but so did her beguiling outfits. Meanwhile, Kerry Washington continued her serial slay with two interesting fits: one, a Thom Browne printed offering and the other, a white tiered flare dress by Christopher John Rogers. Indeed, the non-stop style execution of Black women made this compilation a tad tasking, yet it was absolutely worth it.

The Looks

While plenty of celebs were neck-deep in the Cannes Film Festival, Alicia Keys chose to ride sequins in full glory to the Gordon Parks Foundation dinner. For the event, where her beau Swizz Beats received an award, Keys opted for black loose-fitting sequin pants paired with a matching blazer and a long coat for an electric take on fashion. She softened the all-black get-up with a silver bralette and completed the look with a black wide-brim hat and matching pumps. We dub the look: an edgy slice of je ne sais quoi.

Elsewhere, Fantasia Taylor went wild in a Roberto Cavalli animal print dress. Consistent with the brand, the loud prints made a statement on an otherwise simple, form-fitting dress. Taylor paired it with gold sandal heels from Dolce & Gabbana and statement jewelry. The combination of her looks, from the wild prints to her gold accessories and her edgy tattoo, gave the overall look a nod to loud luxury.

While all eyes were on the 77th “Festival de Cannes,” Jodie Turner-Smith quietly sneaked into the “The Acolyte” movie premiere. The only problem was that even if Ms. Turner-Smith tried, she couldn’t blend into the crowd. The stylish model stood out with her unmistakable aura and her cobalt blue Armani Privé gown. The strapless sequined dress sat on her frame like a glove as her skin popped with the glory of melanin.
