Seeing the beret trend reminds me of my fave maroon coloured beret from my childhood days; and if you were in secondary school in the 90s’, you’ll remember that berets were a standard part of many school uniforms across Nigeria. Childhood memories aside, berets are going to be big this year seeing as celebrities like Rihanna were seen stepping out in berets last year and the recent trend of fashion bloggers and influencers topping their looks with the classic headpiece.
In the past, wearing a beret often represented making a political, military or religious statement but this is one chic piece the Parisians have always been in love with. Lately, the beret is fast becoming a fabulous statement accessory for true fashion lovers with celebrities like Bonang Matheba and Nigerian singer Simi also jumping on the look. The new fashion craze comes in different textures and hues with some being made from thick wool, others from pure or faux leather while others are made from a combination of the two materials.
So just before you dive into this trend, take a cue from the pros and rock your beret like one.
