1. Issa Rae goes presidential in new ‘Barbie’ trailer

On April 4, the live-action movie Barbie unveiled new posters and the official trailer featuring its star-studded cast, including Issa Rae. In the upcoming film, Rae will star as “President Barbie,” as mentioned in her character’s picture.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, the synopsis reads, “After being expelled from Barbieland for being a less than perfect-looking doll, Barbie sets off for the human world to find true happiness.” It will be released only in theaters on July 21, 2023.

2. Davido performs on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’

After the release of “Timeless,” Davido is marketing the album to fans across the world. He delivered the first public performance of the new album on April 2, at the Irvine Plaza in New York. Davido has now taken his new album to “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” where he performed two songs “Feel” and “Unavailable.” Davido’s performance on The Late Show isn’t his first appearance on an American Primetime TV show as he has previously performed on The Tonight Show.

Since its release, “Timeless” has continued to shatter streaming records while setting up new ones. The album set new opening-day streaming records on Apple Music, Spotify, Audiomack, and Boomplay.

3. South Africa: Prince Kaybee parts ways with Universal

Prince Kaybee has announced he has terminated his contract with Universal Music Group. Since signing with the record label, the DJ and producer had publicly aired his grievances with the company claiming he was being sabotaged. On Monday, Kaybee took to his social media timeline excitedly announcing he had finally parted ways with the record label with the caption “Free after 8 years.” The statement from the record company shared by Prince Kaybee revealed he no longer had any contractual obligations with it.

“The parties have agreed to mutually terminate the agreement with effect from April 3 2023 and UM releases you from the delivery of any further recordings in terms of the agreement. UM shall continue to commercially exploit the recordings, account and make payment (if due) to you in terms of the agreement. We thank you for the opportunity of working with us and we wish you every success in the future,” read the statement.

4. Donald Trump arrested, pleads not guilty to 34 charges in historic indictment

On April 4, Donald Trump was arraigned in a Manhattan, New York court. He’s now the first former U.S. president to ever face criminal charges in the history of the country. Millions were glued to their television sets as they watched a motorcade transport Trump to his arraignment. He faced more than 30 charges, including paying adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair during his 2016 presidential campaign. It has been a tense lead-up to the arraignment since March 19 when the 76-year-old told followers on his TRUTH Social platform that he would be arrested.

The former president kept his supporters updated with multiple TRUTH Social posts leading up to his courthouse arrival. After giving himself in around 1:30 p.m. ET and being fingerprinted, the Republican appeared before Judge Juan Merchan. Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records and conspiracy for his alleged role in hush money payments to two women who claimed to have had affairs with him, according to reports. The former president was not handcuffed and did not take a mugshot photograph. Cameras were also not allowed in the courtroom during the trial.

5. Luke Shaw extends Manchester United contract until 2027

Luke Shaw has vowed to help Manchester United “create something special” after signing a new contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2027. Manchester United have confirmed that Shaw has signed a new four-year contract at Old Trafford. The 27-year-old’s previous deal had been due to expire in 2024, but he has committed his long-term future to the club after impressing during Erik ten Hag’s maiden season in charge at Old Trafford.

The England international expressed his delight after the announcement on Monday, telling the club’s official website: “Nine years ago, I signed for this amazing club, and I’m thrilled to be extending my stay. I’ve grown immensely since coming to Manchester all those years ago, both as a person and as a player; I know what is needed to succeed at a club like this.” Barbie Trailer
