Afrobeats continues to build momentum as the year progresses. 2023 has already seen the release of a number of bangers and hits, with promises of more on the way. Leading this week’s releases and already at the top of the trending list is Ayra Starr who begins her year with ‘Sability’ after a widely successful 2022 with ‘Rush’ and the release of her debut album ‘19 & Dangerous’.

Also, a collaboration that fans of afrobeats have been anticipating for years has finally happened. Producer/singer, Young Jonn and YBNL founder, Olamide teamed up to give us a song titled Currency. This is the first song where both artistes contributed vocally as compared to the others, which Young Jonn produced.

Check out the top 5 trending new Afrobeats songs released this week…

#1. Ayra Starr – Sability

The ability to master and control your sabiness before it turns to oversabi, that’s the definition of Sability according to Mavin Records songstress, Ayra Starr. With Rush pulling incredible numbers locally and internationally on digital streaming platforms, Starr seeks to keep the fire burning. The singer-songwriter adds another record to her impressive catalogue with this new track. This is the year’s opener and a follow-up to the deluxe edition of her debut album, 19 & Dangerous. The song is produced by talented beatsmith, London.

#2. Young Jonn ft. Olamide – Currency

Young Jonn, Olamide, and YBNL have a decent history together. The synergy between both acts spawned numerous hits that made the second half of the last decade quite memorable — from Update to Konkobility amongst many other joints. If you miss the old times, buzzing singer and record producer Young Jonn has you covered as he once again collaborates with veteran rapper and singer, Olamide, on his latest single titled Currency. The reunion between the duo has been quite anticipated, and in no time, this jam will saturate the Nigerian music space.

#3. Pheelz – Pheelz Like Summer

Just last week, Pheelz reminded us once again that he’s a badass not just as a producer and singer but also as a songwriter. Stand By You ticked all the boxes and qualifies for an outstanding record. The good news is that we’re having more of that. With seven more songs totaling eight, his latest EP, Pheelz Good, is an extension of the Stand By You track. On the new EP is Pheelz Like Summer, a play on his stage name and a song that is just as bright as the summer days. This song is a great representation of what the EP sounds like.

#4. 2Baba ft. Larry Gaga and Mi Casa – Bebe

A 2Baba and Larry Gaga collaboration can never go wrong, especially when the South African group Mi Casa is involved in the track. The new song Bebe is another solid number by the long-time collaborators. Lead by 2Baba and Larry Gaga, Bebe is their first instalment for 2023 and is produced by Sipho Phillemon Mphahlaza, aka Sir Duda.

#5. Ice Prince – Get At You

Nigerian veteran rapper Ice Prince is off to a good start in 2023 as he delivers his first instalment for the year, Get At You. Produced by talented beatmaker SB, the track doubles as a stepping stone to his upcoming extended play To Be Continued, scheduled for February 17. Get At You is complemented with a befitting music video, directed by Crwd.
