Arise Fashion Week has returned but not without some noteworthy changes on the runway and backstage. Even with the COVID-19 pandemic causing a change in timing and many brands opting for digital events, Arise Fashion Week started on a big note in the boisterous city of Lagos.
The first day of presentations for the highly anticipated fashion event started with a presentation by Onalaja and concluded with a graphic presentation by Wuman. The highlight of the runway shows came as Supermodel Naomi Campbell made her appearance on the runway.
The atmosphere backstage was a bit more mellow than usual but there was still the usual excitement that comes with the Arise Fashion Week backstage. It’s also general knowledge that backstage can be hectic, crazy and sometimes simply a rush once the music kicks in and the first model walks out but it is this exact energy that gives birth to amazing runways shows.
Fashion week is usually when and where most trends are set. This is why a lot of attention is given to the details—from makeup down to the shoes. On the beauty front, au naturale makeup was in play accompanied by bold eye makeup and soft-coloured lips. This was in contrast to the glittery and euphoric beauty trends of 2019 and understandably so, considering the year we’ve had.
Natural hairstyles also ruled the hair department as pearls and raffia-made pieces commanded the jewellery scene.
With a virtual audience, the backstage was indeed the only place that had a decent semblance of what fashion week actually feels like and we can’t wait to see how the beauty and accessory trends translate to the streets as life steadily returns to normal.
