I‘m quite sure those of you who attended or followed last month’s Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week closely were a little shocked or surprised to find out that this time, Canadian-based Nigerian Swimwear designer, Dumebi Iyamah of Andrea Iyamah did not showcase her infamous swimwear line per usual.
Most men and ladies will agree that the Andrea Iyamah swimwear collection is usually one of the highlights of LFDW – we know both sexes look forward to the swimwear presentation for quite unique reasons. But what’s usually an ocean of beautiful, stunning models strutting the runway scantily clad in the most coveted swimwear styles of the season was a no-show this year. However, this time, Designer, chose to push her budding clothing line, something most fashion insiders like myself saw coming earlier this year when Dumebi started taunting us with her original non-swimwear designs which include bridals and ready-to-wear pieces.
While Ms Iyamah, made a statement with her not-water-friendly designs during LFDW, showing us that gorgeous swimwear is only the tip of her iceberg, she also took to presenting her swimwear collection in collaboration with Belvedere Vodka at an exclusive and private event at Temple Muse. I was fortunate to attend the exclusive presentation and I must say, just like her previous swimwear collections and her present ready-to-wear collection, this one was nothing short of breathtaking, detailed and perfection.
