s the name implies, almond oil is extracted from almonds. It’s proven to be a healthy source of vitamins and minerals beneficial for the skin, hair, and cooking, thus, the reason it’s often met with much fanfare among beauty enthusiasts. In this era of “the glow,” multiple ways of achieving that coveted glass skin have risen to the surface, one of which is almond oil. But why else should you add almond oil to your skincare regimen?
Here are the skincare benefits of almond oil you should know…
Any beauty-conscious girl knows that most moisturizing products are keepers. Almond oil is no exception. It softens and hydrates the skin, decreases flaking and irritation, and can enhance the complexion. Additionally, almond oil contains vitamin E, which acts as an antioxidant, protecting the skin from damage caused by free radicals and UV radiation. It can also minimize dark circles under the eyes and soothe inflammation, making it a popular ingredient in skincare products.
Check out effective ways to incorporate this oil into your routine…
Almond oil comes in two types: the bitter and sweet options. While they appear the same, the main difference lies in the strong smell of bitter almond oil and also in the fact that it’s not safe for oral congestion. However, both are acceptable for skincare. Here’s how to incorporate them into your routine:
- As a facial oil: After cleansing your face, apply a few drops of almond oil onto your fingertips and gently massage it into your skin. Focus on dry or problem areas, and let it absorb before applying makeup or other products. You don’t need to rinse it off.
- As a makeup remover: Almond oil can effectively remove makeup, including waterproof mascara. Apply a small amount to a cotton pad and gently wipe over your face to dissolve makeup. Rinse with warm water, and follow up with a cleanser if desired.
- Body moisturizer: Apply almond oil directly to damp skin after a shower or bath to lock in moisture and leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. You can also mix it with your favorite body lotion for added hydration.
- For under-eye treatment: Dab a small amount of almond oil gently under your eyes before bedtime to help reduce the appearance of dark circles, wrinkles, and puffiness. Be careful not to get it into your eyes.
- As massage oil: Almond oil makes an excellent massage oil due to its moisturizing and soothing properties. Warm up a small amount in your hands before massaging it into your skin.
- Exfoliating scrub: Mix almond oil with sugar or salt to create a natural exfoliating scrub. Gently massage the mixture onto damp skin in circular motions, then rinse off with warm water for smooth, polished skin.
Note: Always do a patch test before using almond oil, especially if you have sensitive skin or allergies. Also, a little goes a long way.
