Nigerian singer and songwriter Santi had previously shared singles from his album Mandy and the Jungle. Some of which included the highly talked about Sparky and Freaky, his collaboration with fellow rising star Nonso Amadi and Bridge.
Mandy and the Jungle finally got released and we got to enjoy the rich and engaging cruise through an eccentric mixture of sound which was further made interesting by appearances from Goldlink, DRAM, Shane Eagle, Amaarae, Krisirie and more. With Mandy and the Jungle, Dubai based rising star created a universe, combining everything that has ever influenced or inspired him and made them into a body of work that would be on repeat for a very long time.
The album starts with Raining Outside, a song about friendship which exposes Santi’s unguardedness through his lyrics. The gentle production by Higo sets the perfect mood with the song. Monte Claire, Demon Hearts which features American artiste DRAM and Where You Been which features Seki were made to serve as songs to get people excited. DRAM and Seki gave wonderful performances and executed their verses perfectly.
Santi delivered melodious vocals on RX-64 which features Krisirie. Krisirie’s vocals were in perfect coordination with Santi’s and perfectly aligned with the production done by Odunsi (the engine). The song gives the idea of a kind of hypnotic love song. Maria which was produced by GMK and features Goldlink saw him expertly ride the beat with a flow that could be compared to a river. Santi assisted on the track by delivering a perfectly crafted verse and chorus.
On Raw Dinner, the Jiggy Bop crooner, Kida Kudz gave a brief but highly effective contribution to the track. He owned the beat while he supported Santi’s Verses. Tay Iwar gave a pristine performance on both Murvlana and Settle down. On Murvlana, Tay Iwar and Santi made it known that they would no longer be comforters to the subject of the song, while on Settle down, Amaarae complemented Tay and Santi perfectly with her sonorous voice.
Santi’s chemistry with his guest artists as well as his producers has led him to give us the amazing body of work that is Mandy and the Jungle which is sure to stand the test of time.
