For their May cover, Essence Magazine got Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and his family to grace the magazine. Inside the issue which coincides with the magazine’s 49th anniversary, P. Diddy opened up about the death of his ex-girlfriend and mother of four of his kids, Kim Porter.
The cover which was shot by Dana Scruggs was done as the family prepares for their first mother’s day without Kim. This is the first time the family opened up on losing their mother and their feelings. Kim passed away one month before her 48th birthday on November 15, 2018, after suffering from pneumonia.
Here are the 3 major things he revealed…
1. His sons have made him realise some of his mistakes
According to Diddy, he has been able to look at some mistakes he has made. When his sons act up, he asks them “why they are acting that way.” Their response was always this “we are just acting like the way we’ve seen you acting.”
2. His girls have taught him patience and how to really treat women
His daughters have opened up his feminine side. He said, “it took him having daughters to really know how to treat a woman and he is still learning.”
3. His girls taught him how to deal with the loss of Kim
According to his statement in the cover interview, “One day I asked them how are they being so strong. They said that, in a weird way, their mother had taught them how to deal with death. About six years ago, Kim’s mother – Sarah Porter – was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and we moved her to L.A. She passed away about a year and a half later, so the girls saw their mother deal with losing her mother. Now, ironically, they are teaching me how to deal with Kim’s passing.”
