This Is Givenchy’s Most Dramatic Haute Couture Collection Yet

Clare Waight Keller, last year gave a tribute to Hubert de Givenchy who died on the 10th March in Paris. Before and during the tribute her collections and creative designs were heavily influenced by the house’s traditional theme: a sort of dark elegance. However, many sources have spoken out calling this year’s display “one of the most dramatic collection to date.”

Two years ago, Clare Waight Keller was at Chloé making casual wear; no one had foreseen what the changes in her career would bring, moving from bohemian pieces to calling latex “couture leather.”

This is Clare’s third haute couture collection for the House of Givenchy and so far what could have comprised of safe and polite pieces instead was an enchanting experience. Held at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the ambience was the perfect setting for the displays of passion, fashion and colour.

According to her:

“I wanted a clean slate, a blank canvas,”

This statement shows that Clare wanted everything just right in order to be able to unfold the haute couture bespoke collection. It is clear that she’s on a journey to showcase interesting and exciting new styles. She most certainly is not taking away so much from the old but infusing it with a new and futuristic angle.

Multi-coloured fringe dresses, hand-made separates, women’s ballgowns, menswear, almost gender-less designs, playful territory and strict overtones created a romanticism that blew through the runway. “There’s no theatre. It’s just purity. You’re looking at the clothes,” Waight Keller was quoted saying.

We love all the infusions that created this gorgeous collection.
