Giving Back: Young Business And Professional Women, Abuja Celebrates Children’s Day With The Less Priviledged

Young Business And Professional Women (BPW)-Nigeria is an affiliate of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women (IFBPW) formed in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1930, on the initiative of Dr. Lena Madesin Philips of the U.S.A.

BPW is a pressure group, and opinion-making group, non-partisan, not for profit and non-sectarian. It is one of the world’s largest organized networks of business and professional women in the world. It actively promotes women into decision-making positions.

The young BPW are members of BPW below 35 years of age, who come together with the common goal of impacting lives.

Our Mission – “Knowledge is power. Power is a means of influencing policies affecting the lives of women, men, and children. BPW works to develop a comprehensive framework of structures to provide the necessary education, training, and opportunities to help women achieve economic independence, and assume their rightful place in business, the professions, in politics, and in all decision-making processes”.

Our Vision – “To achieve first and equal status of women in all levels and areas of society, where decisions are taken in true partnership with men, based on mutual respect, for a more balanced and respectful world.

Narrative of the children’s day event:

The children of Jigo-Bwari were not left out at this year’s May 27th children’s day event. Young BPW members represented by (Chioma Onoshakpor, Ayo Lawal, Isioma Idemudia, Gimbiya Galadima, and Tolu Ojuolape) set out to have fun and celebrate with the children of solid foundation academy, Jigo- Bwari. They resented talks on Personal Hygiene, Patriotism, and Climate change. It was life-changing as the children were engaged in questions and answer sessions to enhance their thought-processing skills. The children also presented special welcome songs to Young BPW members, cultural dance, and a practical drama.

School fees were given to recipients of the Young BPW scholarship scheme. The coordinator for the Young Business and Professional Women, Abuja 1, Mrs. Chioma Onoshakpor handed gifts over to the proprietor of Solid Foundation Academy to pass on to every child in the school.
