What’s London Fashion Week without that show that even more different than you could ever imagine? Well, Matty Bovan’s show was one that had models in hats made from feather dusters, cash props and kitchen utensils – yes, I’m talking pots, pans, and the whole nine yard.
For the outfits, there was a lot of fuss, high use of tulle, shiny foil material and of course plenty colourful ribbons which were to be expected. As the ladies walked down the unpretentious runway, you couldn’t help but notice that they sure don’t travel light as their larger than life layered skirts and dresses probably weighs enough to have them pay for extra luggage.
So then, what was the inspiration behind this eccentric show? According to the designer, his inspiration was taken from the eighties filmmaker Derek Jarman instead of the hunger games as we assumed. The idea was to bombard people with something so overwhelming but fun at the same time, showing off a range of art-forms – an overload of information and delightful outfits that come off as utterly unwearable but fun around the edges if you look past the elaborate styling.
This type of collection is to be expected at the London Fashion Week and although they seem like something unwearable, once taken apart they stand differently. From string bikini tops to knits, dresses and matching sets, all of which would need better fine tuning for commercial success but in all seriousness, the Matty Bovan show clearly shows the spirited imaginative style London has been known for.
