NYFW: Nigerian Designer Maki Oh Debuts Her SS19 Collection Inspired By The Bukas In Lagos

Nigerian designer Amaka Osakwe of Maki Oh took to New York Fashion Week to release her SS19 collection which was inspired from the times she hung out in the local restaurants of Lagos, popularly known as buka.

As typical of the brand, the collection is centred around sensuality and the nuances of the female form – vulnerable and strong. Amaka drew inspiration from hand-packaged street food for the knotting and wrapping techniques that cinched traditional caftans in the most flattering places.

The Maki Oh collection which featured the brand’s signature Adire fabric has Amaka expanding the scope of her production capabilities with the help of Adire designers in Ogun State, one of the regions the fabric originated from and is produced in.
