“My parents were adventurers,” these words can be found on the program of the Tory Burch SS19 NYFW show. On Friday in the Cooper Hewitt Museum garden, on a runway set filled with peace and lemon trees, the designer unveiled her SS19 collection and once again celebrated the casual style impressed on her by her parents.
The collection, which is mostly inspired by the “wanderlust” lifestyle her parents lived in a time when fashion had stricter rules, is filled with nautical vibes and freeing pieces that celebrate the ability to express one’s self without the fear of causing a faux pas.
The line up included pieces like languid tent dresses, Boho dresses in sweet cotton stripe details, trench coats, tailored shirt-dresses, sporty knits and safari shirt-and-trouser set. Tunics and caftans alongside shirts with bright lined embroidery were also in the mix. While there is a lot of variety which makes the pieces in the line-up attractive, the neutral palette, although with a few shots of bright colours here and there, made them even more smart and approachable.
Tory Burch’s SS19 collection manages to create new translations to something familiar. The designer clearly defined and managed to keep our interest even though we are well aware of the structures of the line-up.
Here’s a look at the clever ways Tory Burch’s collection inspire + our favourite pieces from the line-up…
