Last Week’s Best Dressed Bared Out Their Interpretation Of Individualism

The 2024 Cannes Film Festival stole the better part of last week’s fashion. The internet was abuzz with stellar getups from the event dedicated to silently outdoing themselves. But eclipsing proved abortive, as each look stood up for its own belief and aim. The result was that we were left with a good dose of mesmerizing fits that demanded we appreciate the art of interpreting fashion to highlight each individual’s preference.

The Looks

French singer Yseult Onguenet was the diamond of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The internet literarily shattered with her vintage-inspired offering. Onguenet opted for a recreation of the pace-setting 1947 Christian Dior ‘New Look’. Featuring a white blazer styled with a black pleated midi skirt and completed with leather gloves, black pumps, and a black hat, the look was the proper way to sizzle in France. For context, in 1947, Dior exhibited their debut collection with over 90 looks, with this coordination being the main event of the lineup.

The past week was indeed a time-traveling affair. Jada Pinkett-Smith teased her fans with a sultry Maison Alaia dress she initially rocked 20 years ago! The black sleeveless number with metallic accents sat gracefully on her frame and reiterated her baddie status. The Red Table Talk host first wore the dress to the 2004 Hollywood Awards Gala, where she pressed necks without mercy. And she only pressed it harder last week. We can all agree that fitting into your decades-old clothes and still looking alluring is a whole mood.

Meanwhile, Letoya Luckett was on an outfit roulette at the Black Music Honours event. Every outfit she shot hit the target. She set off the night in a futuristic Demi Blvck high-slit dress with exaggerated sleeves, then went on serving embellishment overdose in a pink number. The latter look featured feathers, fringe details, beads, and irregular proportions, all clamoring for attention with full pink finesse. Her third offering was a midnight blue flowy dress with enough volume to glide in style. Then, she closed off the night in a Terry Costa deep-neckline gold dress that caught the light with every move she took.
