oses are a girl’s best friend. It doesn’t matter if they’re presented as flowers or water, the benefits continue to spill to prove their importance. Today, we’re spotlighting rose water — a sweet-smelling liquid made by dousing rose petals in water. This liquid could be used for cooking, skincare, and spiritual rituals due to its delicate floral scent and potential health benefits. Plus, it works its magic on all skin types, so if you have sensitive skin, you may have finally found your skin’s best friend. Rose water also boasts soothing properties that calm raging skin and put it under check in case of future irritations.

What are the benefits?

  • My sensitive skin often turned red due to the slightest discomfort. However, once I started including rose water in my skincare routine, there was a considerable change in my skin’s pH. Indeed, rose water helps hydrate and relieve the skin, lessens redness and inflammation, and proportionates oil production.
  • As stated earlier, rose water helps calm irritation and reduces inflammation. Using it on skin issues like acne, dermatitis, or eczema is a helpful start to alleviating these skin issues. The antioxidants in rose water may protect the skin from the influence of free radicals, which can contribute to aging and numerous skin diseases.
  • Also, the scent of rose water is believed to have calming and mood-boosting effects, making it popular in aromatherapy practices.
  • Including rose water in skincare routines has been of great help to individuals with sensitive or damaged skin. But it can also be used as a natural conditioner to hydrate and add shine to hair. It’s believed to alleviate scalp irritation and stimulate hair growth.
  • As the world of beauty benefits greatly from this wonder ingredient, so do our guts. Some people use rose water to aid digestion and relieve symptoms of bloating or indigestion. Further research is needed to confirm its effectiveness in this area.

(Although rose water has many potential benefits, it’s advised to use it appropriately and be aware of any potential allergies or sensitivities).

Check out how to use rose water in your skincare routine…

You can use rose water as a toner. Do this by applying it to a cotton pad and gently swiping it over your face after cleansing. This balances the skin’s pH levels and hydrates the skin.

Use as a toner:

  • Using rose water in your skincare regimen is simple. Start by cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser and patting it dry. Then pour a small amount of rose water onto a cotton pad or ball.
  • Gently dab the rose water-soaked cotton pad over your face, avoiding the eye area. Allow the rose water to air dry on your skin.
  • Once dried, follow up with your usual moisturizer or other products in your routine.
  • You can use rose water as a toner once or twice daily, depending on your skin’s needs.

Use as a facial mist

  • Transfer rose water to a spray bottle and spritz it onto your face throughout the day for a quick refresh. It’s especially beneficial during hot weather or when your skin feels dry.

Use as a makeup remover

  • Rose water can be used as a gentle makeup remover. Soak a cotton pad with rose water and swipe it over your face to remove makeup before cleansing.

As an ingredient in DIY face masks

  • Mix rose water with other natural ingredients like honey, yogurt, or aloe vera to create homemade face masks. These masks can help hydrate, soothe, and brighten the skin.

As an under-eye treatment

  • Soak cotton pads in rose water and place them on your closed eyelids for a few minutes to reduce puffiness and refresh tired eyes.

For hair rinse

  • After shampooing, rinse your hair with diluted rose water to add shine and moisture to your locs.

As a body mist

  • Spritz rose water onto your body after showering for a light, floral fragrance and to hydrate your skin.

Note: Always patch test before using rose water extensively, especially if you have sensitive skin. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
