Beyoncé has revealed she will be launching a hair care line on February 20. The 32-time Grammy winner made the announcement on Instagram, posting a cryptic video featuring apparent home movie footage of her mother’s salon, Headliners, in Houston, Texas, where Beyoncé had her first job sweeping hair. A makeshift projector screen shows snippets of childhood videos: Beyoncé in a pink tracksuit wandering the salon floor; Tina Knowles dressed up for the evening, waving to the camera with her young daughter in tow, sporting a flourishing afro.

“Hair is sacred,” read the caption as the megastar revealed the brand name, Cécred. Intermixed with her family’s archival footage are clips of hair washing, braiding, and silk presses. While details about what products Cécred will offer are yet to be shared, a trademark request filed in the summer of 2022 clears the company for the production of hair care preparations, candles, vitamin supplements, electric hair styling tools, combs, hair accessories, pillowcases, and four other goods and services categories.

2. Kanye West adds Lagos to 2024 touring shortlist

Grammy winner Kanye West is set to release a new album in 2024, “Vultures,” in collaboration with TY Dolla $ign. With the three installments of his new album set to be released in the coming weeks, with the first on February 9, West has posted a possible touring lineup on his Instagram story. The post highlighted a shortlist of different cities around the world, with Cairo, Egypt; Nairobi, Kenya; and Lagos, Nigeria, being the only African cities.

The possibility of Kanye West performing in Lagos has excited fans, who will be eager to see one of the most decorated and best-selling rappers of all time perform in the Afrobeats capital. Should Kanye West make a stop in Lagos as part of his 2024 tour, it would be the second time he’s performed in Lagos. The rapper was part of the international artist lineup at the 2007 Mega Star Jam.

South African Music Award (SAMA) winner, Musa Keys has made headlines following his heartfelt reaction to his loss at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. Despite being nominated in the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration with Davido on “Unavailable,” Keys faced disappointment as the award ultimately went to fellow singer Tyla for her track “Water.” The highly anticipated Grammy Awards, hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, drew attention to Musa Keys’ emotional response to the outcome.

In a candid moment shared with fans, Keys expressed a mix of emotions, acknowledging the significance of the nomination while grappling with the sting of defeat. Despite the loss, Keys remains resilient, urging others to continue dreaming big and striving for excellence. “I am Grammy-nominated. I’m a proud and happy young kid from Giyani. I made it to the stage. Might as well make it my place of residence.”

4. Rolling Loud Festival set to make its African debut

Ahead of its 10th anniversary, the Rolling Loud festival is set to make its debut in Africa soon. The co-founder of Rolling Loud, Tariq Cherif, was seen in a video announcing that the festival would be coming to Africa, specifically to Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa. This announcement has caused a spark among music enthusiasts. Notably, the 2023 Rolling Loud Festival featured a historic performance by Wizkid, making him the first African artist to headline the 3-day international hip-hop music festival since it started in 2015.

5. Nigeria edges out South Africa in dramatic AFCON semi-final

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have qualified for the final of the African Cup of Nations after defeating South Africa in Wednesday’s semi-final clash. After 120 minutes of football ended 1-1, the match was decided on penalties. The Super Eagles scored four of their penalties, while Bafana Bafana missed two of theirs. The Super Eagles did not display their best football in the first half of this pulsating AFCON encounter. Their performance was seemingly affected by the absence of Zaidu Sanusi and Ola Aina’s slow adjustment to the left wing-back position. Bafana Bafana capitalized on this imbalance, finding success with lofted passes over the Nigerian defense, while loose ball control from both defenders and midfielders provided attacking opportunities for the opponents.

With a five-man defense in place for South Africa when Nigeria attacked, Jose Peseiro introduced some new players, including Kelechi Iheanacho, in the second half. The coach needed one or two skilled dribblers to break through the South African defense, which had gained confidence as the match progressed. In the end, the match had to be decided by penalties. The Super Eagles triumphed 4-2, sparking wild celebrations across Nigerian cities and among Nigerians in the diaspora. This is the first AFCON final for the Super Eagles in 11 years.
