1. Megan Thee Stallion signs Warner Music Group deal

According to reports, three-time Grammy winner, Megan Thee Stallion has partnered with Warner Music Group to help distribute her forthcoming music while she still maintains ownership of it. In October, just weeks before Meg released her latest single, “Cobra,” she revealed on Instagram Live that her next project would be self-funded. “I have no label right now and we’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pocket,” she explained. “The next shit y’all about to see about to be all straight from Megan Thee Stallion, Megan Thee Stallion brain, Megan Thee Stallion wallet.”

Megan continued, “I’m so excited to be doing something for the first time independent since [before] it was just me and my mama. It’s really just me this go-round until we sign to a new label. I don’t wanna sign to a new label right now because… I just wanna do it myself.” Previously, Megan Thee Stallion was in a legal dispute with her former label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, which ended in October with a settlement being reached.

Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez delivered one of the most talked-about performances at the Grammy Hip Hop 50th anniversary celebration as he took to the stage to deliver a perfect rendition of his hit song “Ice Spice.” The rapper, whose recently released album, “Emeka Must Shine,” surpassed 100 million streams on all digital streaming platforms, was one of the performers at the event organized by the Recording Academy to celebrate the Grammy Hip Hop 50th anniversary.

Ghanaian rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur, Michael Owusu Addo, widely recognized as Sarkodie, has officially opened his Rapperholic exhibition to the public. The event, which commenced on December 10, will be available for public viewing for a week, building anticipation for the Rapperholic concert. Notably, this unique exhibition celebrates the legacy of the renowned hip-life artist. Just a day after its official opening, a group of enthusiastic young students from Accra visited the mix design studio in Osu, only to be pleasantly surprised by Sarkodie himself.

4. ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ star Andre Braugher dies at 61

Emmy-winning actor, Andre Braugher has passed away at the age of 61. According to reports, the actor died on Monday after a brief illness. Braugher gained widespread recognition and critical acclaim for his role as Detective Frank Pembleton in the groundbreaking television series “Homicide: Life on the Street” (1993–1998), where he met his wife, Amy Brabson. He earned an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Lead Actor” in a Drama Series in 1998.

In 2006, he won an Emmy for “Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor” in the FX mini-series “Thief,” where he played Nick Atwater, a master thief and leader of a heist crew. Taking a step from dramatic roles, Braugher put on his comedy hat for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (2013–2021) as the no-nonsense Captain Raymond Holt and earned kudos for his comedic timing. Along with his wife, Braugher is survived by his sons Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley.

Former Real Madrid forward, Karim Benzema broke a FIFA Club World Cup goal-scoring record with his strike for Al-Ittihad against Auckland City. The French forward became the first player to score in four different FIFA Club World Cup editions with his strike in the 40th minute in a comfortable 3-0 win for the Saudi Pro League side. The scoring spree began with Brazilian forward Romarinho’s deflected effort in the 29th minute, followed by former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante’s superb strike just five minutes later. Benzema then completed the triumphant display by knocking in the third goal.

It is Benzema’s sixth appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup after appearing with Los Blancos the previous five times. Remarkably, Benzema has won every edition that he has played, lifting the trophy in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2022. Gianni Infantino, the FIFA President, congratulated Benzema for his remarkable achievement and wrote on Instagram: “Congratulations 🇫🇷 @karimbenzema on becoming the first player to score in 4 FIFA Club World Cups ⚽️🎖️An incredible achievement by a great player, my best wishes to you for this edition 👏 🤗”
