On August 31, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Oprah Winfrey took to social media to announce the People’s Fund of Maui initiative, which aims to provide direct funding to affected residents of Hawaii’s Lahaina and Kula regions following a series of deadly wildfires. To date, 115 lives have been lost due to the island disaster.

The description attached to the announcement revealed that Oprah and The Rock are providing $10 million to kickstart the campaign. It also said that every adult resident who resided in the affected area and was displaced is eligible to receive $1200 per month during this period of recovery. All of those interested in contributing can head to the official website of the People’s Fund of Maui.

3. South Africa: Bonang Matheba set to launch her own talent agency

Bonang Matheba is looking to launch her own talent agency to hone South African talent. The media personality revealed this during her sit-down with Thando Thabethe on “HerStory Unplugged.” “It’s like a power production agency, part talent hub because South Africans are great and we are fantastic, but we have not mastered talent management, and there’s no governance in our entertainment industry,” she said.

“We have so many superstars, but why aren’t they where they need to be? We don’t know how to cultivate them, provide for them, and move them to where they need to be.” Bonang had a fallout with her former management agency. In October 2021, she announced that she had terminated her contract with celebrity management group Celebrity Services Africa (CSA) and taken legal action against the global agency.

4. J Cole reportedly praises Singer Simi’s songwriting

Popular Nigerian singer Simi has claimed that iconic American rapper, J Cole hailed her amazing songwriting skills. She said the Grammy-winning rapper’s praise was a sign that she had “made it.” The mother of one disclosed this on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday. She wrote, “JCole said my pen is lit. So yea. I made it mommy.”

A curious fan quoted her post, questioning if she would have disclosed the information if it were to be a Nigerian rapper that commended her. The fan wrote: “If rugged man or mode9 or vector said this same thing to you…would you tweet it?” Simi simply replied: “Probably not.”

5. Sergio Ramos seals transfer to Al-Ittihad to link up with ex-team-mate Karim Benzema

Sergio Ramos is on the verge of moving to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, where he will link up with former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema. The former Real Madrid captain has been a free agent since leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season. And he is about to link up with former Blancos team-mate Benzema after opting to join Al-Ittihad over Galatasaray. Benzema and Ramos won four Champions League titles with Real Madrid in a glorious 12-year period at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ramos left Real in 2021 to join PSG while Benzema called time on his long spell in the Spanish capital over the summer to see out his career in Saudi Arabia. Ramos had been weighing up several options after leaving PSG. There was the prospect of joining boyhood club Sevilla but they opted against a reunion due to Ramos’ salary demands and the fact he is 37. He also considered following former PSG team-mate Lionel Messi‘s steps and moving to MLS, while Besiktas and Galatasaray were also interested in him.
