April is off to a great start music-wise as some of our favorite Afrobeats artistes have dedicated the new month and the start of the new quarter to giving us timeless groovy jams. Starting off is YBNL act Asake who is extending his music catalog with a new song titled 2:30. He keeps making a great case for the afro-amapiano fusion which is fast becoming one of Nigeria’s favorite genres.

Elsewhere, Nigerian songstresses Darkoo and Ayra Starr link up to give fans Disturbing U, a song that has been referred to as a sexy girl’s anthem. The song comes accompanied by a colorful, heist-themed music video with a lot of replay value. There were other bangers released this week, and we’ve curated a list of the trending five for a bop-worthy weekend.

Check out the top 5 trending new Afrobeats songs released this week…

#1. Asake – 2:30

After kicking off his 2023 campaign with the mid-tempo tune Yoga, Asake progresses with another song titled 2:30. This song is co-produced by Blaise Beatz and of course, his partner in crime, Magic Sticks. One doesn’t really require a second listen to know 2:30 is a certified hit. The song pattern follows the sequence of his other releases. 2:30 counts as Asake’s second offering for 2023, and it comes with a befitting music video directed by Edgar Steves and Joshua Valle.

#2. Darkoo ft. Ayra Starr – Disturbing U

UK-based Nigerian rapper-cum-singer, Darkoo has released a brand new single titled Disturbing U. On the new joint, she gets the assistance of raving Mavin Records’ songstress, Ayra Starr. “Why is my happiness disturbing you,” Darkoo in the company of Ayra Starr narrates how highly she invests in minding her own business. The song is complemented by a clean GTA-esque music video, directed by Capone X Shala. The song is produced by talented beatsmith, Derakuts.

#3. Joeboy – Duffle Bag

Nigerian singer-songwriter, Joeboy returns in an upbeat mood with Duffel Bag, his latest single off his upcoming sophomore album tagged Body & Soul. In one of the album’s more celebratory and dancefloor-inspired riddims, Duffel Bag boasts some cleverly crafted instrumentation, as 808 bass lines, classy string stabs, and fluid, soulful guitars provide the musical backdrop for Joeboy to deliver his trademark sweet and heartfelt vocal delivery. This jam was produced by E-Kelly and Timmy.

#4. L.A.X – Zaza

On the verge of unleashing his long-awaited album upon us, Nigerian singer-songwriter, L.A.X fuels the anticipation with a new single from the project titled Zaza. The song is produced by his frequent collaborator, Clemzy. L.A.X’s forthcoming album is titled No Bad Vibes and it’ll arrive before the end of the second quarter of the year.

#5. Sidhu Moose Wala ft. Burna Boy and Steel Banglez – Mera Na

Sidhu Moose Wala‘s voice and legend status is cemented with the posthumous release of his new song Mera Na with Nigerian star Burna Boy and Indian-origin U.K. producer Steel Banglez. Among the first releases since the Punjabi star was murdered in a shooting in May last year, Mera Na comes with a video that collates tributes, memories, and just how dearly Moose Wala is missed all over the world. Steel Banglez and Moose Wala worked together in 2019 and 2021 but with the addition of Burna Boy, Mera Na lends itself to becoming a truly global hit within hours of its release.
