ast week, Nigerian celebrities toured across the globe, especially in celebration of International Women’s Day. For instance, Afrobeats artiste Tiwa Savage attended an IWD event at Buckingham Palace, and Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde was spotted at the Women of Valour event in Ghana sharing words of motivation with younger women. But it wasn’t just the message of equality and women empowerment that made an impression. These women displayed strength and femininity in attractive getups. And because fashion is a reflection of the spirit of empowerment, Nigerian women, as always, delivered to the T. This wasn’t about fancy ensembles alone, because even in simplicity, individualism shone through.

The Looks

What does it take for a woman to truly stand out in a formal event? The answer lies in the details of her attire, from the cut to the color, and every tiny embellishment in between. Nothing portrays grace like a tailored double-breasted blazer dress. Idia Aisien stood tall on the streets of Instagram in a gray blazer dress by Nigerian brand 4evayoung which featured black tassels strategically placed toward the hem of the piece. The tailored design accentuated her feminine figure while maintaining an air of professionalism. She merged it with a pair of PVC heels and a minimal face beat. Double-breasted tailored dresses strike the ideal harmony between understatement and glitz, combining minimalism and grace. A soft touch that hits hard.

When you’re leaving the big event and it’s time to hit the streets, don’t let your sense of style slide. Take inspiration from Temi Odetola. The stunning actress blended an Ermano Scervino blue knit crop top, sharply tailored trousers, and a trendy puffer coat with ease. The tailored pants added a structured and polished appearance, while the knitted crop top relaxed the rendering. In addition to keeping her toasty, the puffer coat came through. This three-piece combo is perfect for transitioning from a formal event to a casual night out without compromising on style.

Beauty and power are two elements often associated with femininity. One art Nollywood actress, Osas Ighadaro seems to have mastered. The movie star attended the Essence Black Women In Hollywood event in a stunning S.B. Youme-designed all-red outfit that captured the undoubted essence of feminine power. She styled a tiered maxi skirt with a sheer blouse and glossy pumps, then slapped on a fringe pony for a girly emphasis. With this look, Ighodaro proves again that red is indeed the color of feminine power, a symbol of the strong, confident, and beautiful woman within us all. And we love her for it.
