The Best Designs From The London Fashion Week FW23 Shows

A fashion and pop culture writer who watches a lot…
London Fashion Week has a much more rebellious reputation than the other three fashion capitals since it frequently follows its own path. As fashion month continues, the London shows followed hot on the heels of New York Fashion Week FW 2023 and offered a jam-packed schedule, mixing established names with hot new talents.
There was a return to the usual busy schedule after last season was disrupted by the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the ensuing official mourning period (several shows were canceled or rescheduled). Designers who returned to the London runway this year include JW Anderson, Conner Ives, Christopher Kane, Simone Rocha, Nensi Dojaka, Molly Goddard, Roksanda, and Julien Macdonald.
The entirety of London’s fall 2023 show was dedicated to the late Dame Vivienne Westwood, whose memorial service on February 16 was attended by the likes of Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, and Marc Jacobs.
London Fashion Week 2023 was centered around exploration and originality, in contrast to New York Fashion Week which flourished on the back of trends, elegant looks, and several potential future classics. There were several British designer brands exhibiting during the week, so there was a good mix of well-known names and noteworthy fresh talent. But, even though all the highlights of London Fashion Week took place on the runway, they weren’t only about the outfits.
Burberry’s London Fashion Week show was the first under new creative director Daniel Lee. On the brand’s social media channels earlier this month, Lee’s new Burberry, which is edgy, modern, and youthful, was teased to audiences with promotional images, heightening interest in a reimagining of the heritage label. The collection featured a modernization of the nova check, the brand’s signature pattern, that is destined to become a new staple of Burberry’s brand identity, with undertones of late ’70s Britain, as well as eye-catching oversized outerwear and pillowy accessories. In addition to chic, classic turtlenecks, tights, and, of course, Burberry trench coats, Lee added fresh, fun elements to this inaugural collection.
Because of the industry norm of exclusivity, many individuals, particularly those who use wheelchairs, are plus-sized, or identify as gender non-conforming, believe that fashion isn’t for them. But this stodgy story is being rewritten thanks to designers like Sinéad O’Dwyer. For instance, a pregnant model walked the runway in her Autumn 2023 show wearing a cut-out-filled catsuit that welcomed the flaunting of the body rather than attempting to conceal it. Similarly, models of various sizes, shapes, and abilities used fishnet fabrics, body-con silhouettes, and neon colors throughout the show.
Moncler relocated to London for its most recent project, “The Art of Genius,” and took over the enormous central hall of Olympia London with various immersive installations made in collaboration with a diverse ensemble of collaborators for whom the brand’s “Genius” initiative is known. Among them were Pharrell Williams, who designed an imaginative “outdoor” area in the venue that was influenced by “glamping,” Mercedes-Benz, which unveiled its joint art project-turned-vehicle Project Mondo G, and Adidas Originals, which imagined a “vertical LED glacier” to display its clothing collaboration with the company. Others were Roc Nation by Jay-Z, FRGMT, Rick Owens, Palm Angels, Salehe Bembury, and Alicia Keys, who gave a performance for the throngs of spectators to cap off the evening.
All in all, London Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2023 was a celebration of clothing and creativity as a sartorial love letter. Here, Style Rave has rounded up the best looks from all of your favorite brand’s new collections.
