1. Drake and 21 Savage settle Conde Nast lawsuit over fake Vogue cover

Since Conde Nast accused Drake and 21 Savage of stealing its whole flow bar for bar with a fake Vogue Magazine cover, the dust finally settled and so did the Her Loss rappers. Drake is known for having big fun with his albums, often blurring the line between reality and creative license. When it came to the rollout of his joint album “Her Loss” with 21 Savage, he crossed the line. Condé Nast sued the rappers for $4 million in damages. On Thursday, it was reported that the publishing giant settled with Drake and 21 for an undisclosed amount.

The lawsuit filed in November claimed that the fake cover created “unmistakable” confusion and “widespread belief that the counterfeit issue and counterfeit cover disseminated by Defendants were real.” A federal judge agreed with Condé Nast, issuing a restraining order two days later to cease the promotion and use of the fake Vogue cover.

2. Nigeria: Funke Akindele’s ‘Battle on Buka Street’ is Nollywood’s highest-grossing film ever with N640M

Funke Akindele is officially the first and only Nigerian filmmaker to make over N500 million twice. Funke Akindele’s “Battle on Buka Street” has set a new record. Data from the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) shows that the comedy-drama has earned over N640 million after spending only nine weeks in theaters. The 2022 release is now the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of all time. This title was previously held by “Omo Ghetto: The Saga,” also by Akindele.

Akindele is also breaking records outside the country. Her hit movie earned over $60,000 in the US, despite showing in only 11 locations. Her movie is the first ever Indigenous Nollywood release in the United States. It was also released in the United Kingdom.

3. South Africa: Family and friends pay tribute to AKA in emotional memorial service

On February 17, the family and friends of late rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes gathered for a memorial service in honor of the late rapper who was killed alongside his long-time friend and manager Tebello Motsoane in Durban, South Africa. The memorial, which was held at the Sandton Convention Center, attracted notable personalities from South Africa’s music industry. The memorial was a moving one as AKA’s young daughter Kairo was captured on camera crying while being comforted by her mother DJ Zinhle.

AKA, who was also called Supamega, was set to release his upcoming album “Mass Country” on February 24, and his family and label have announced that the album will be released as scheduled. Speaking to his fans known as “Megacy,” AKA’s mother Lynn asked that they should ensure they carry on his legacy in a positive light as that was what he would have wanted.

4. Christian Atsu found dead after Turkey earthquake

Footballer Christian Atsu has been found dead under the rubble of his home almost two weeks after the Turkey earthquake, his agent has confirmed. The Ghanaian international, 31, had spells with Premier League sides Everton, Chelsea, and Newcastle. Atsu had been missing since the February 6 quake that caused the collapse of his apartment in Antakya, Hatay. “There are no words to describe our sadness,” tweeted his Turkish top-flight club Hatayspor. “We will not forget you, Atsu. Peace be upon you, beautiful person.”

In the aftermath of the quake, Hatayspor initially reported Atsu had been rescued “with injuries,” but a day later that position changed. His agent Nana Sechere, who has been in Hatay, confirmed the news on Saturday on Twitter. The Ghana Football Association said Atsu’s body was recovered on Saturday morning after “almost two weeks of emotional torture.” The Ghanaian foreign ministry added that Atsu’s elder brother and twin sister were at the site when his body was recovered. Atsu’s body was flown back to Ghana on Saturday for burial.

David de Gea has notched an impressive landmark at Manchester United by matching club legend Peter Schmeichel’s record for clean sheets. The Spanish goalkeeper kept a clean sheet for the 180th time for the Red Devils as they ran out 3-0 winners against Leicester at Old Trafford.

De Gea made two saves during the match to keep the Foxes out, enjoying a much quieter afternoon than his counterpart, Danny Ward, who saw Marcus Rashford put two past him followed by a Jadon Sancho goal to wrap up the match. The 32-year-old will attempt to beat the record when his side hosts Barcelona in the second leg of their Europa League play-off tie on Thursday.
