Getting the recommended eight hours of sleep per night isn’t something the “experts” cooked up to make you lazy. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and it really does need to get replenished considering all the work it does for you. Therefore, by getting your beauty rest, you give your skin immense benefits to help it glow. Get a good sleep dear, your skin needs it.

#2. Wear SPF

You already know this, wearing SPF is not negotiable. Regular use of sunscreen will not only decrease your risk of skin cancer but prevent premature aging too, and who doesn’t want that? So, what is the least amount of SPF to use? The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends a water-resistant, broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher for any extended outdoor activity.

#3. Avoid smoking

Smoking is generally not good for anything, especially for your skin. Other than the fact that it can cause lung cancer, smoking promotes aging and contributes to wrinkles. So quit that puff if younger-looking skin is the goal.

#4. Use skincare that works for your skin type

As mentioned before, different skin types exist and every individual has their own unique skin issues. This is why it’s important to opt for products that are formulated with your unique skin in mind. For instance, if your skin is prone to acne, it makes no sense to use products that contain lanolin. When it comes to healthy skin tips, using the right products can’t be over-emphasized as it helps your skin to look and feel its best.

#5. Manage stress levels

We know that adulting is not a joke and the hustle to secure the bag tends to increase stress levels, but your skin doesn’t need the baggage. Stress can promote skin problems, so it’s important to manage your stress levels. If you suffer from any skin conditions, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea, stress can cause unwanted flare-ups.

#6. Wash your face regularly

Wash your face in the morning, at night, and after you’ve had a good sweat. Washing in the morning removes the dirt and bacteria on your skin when you wake up. At night, washing your face removes makeup and dirt that landed on your skin during the day. Finally, washing after you’ve been sweating rids your skin of, well, really nasty stuff.

#7. Be gentle when washing your face

Washing your face doesn’t require a heavy hand. As a matter of fact, a heavy hand can hurt your skin more than you realize. Instead of going full-on power mode, use light circular motions with your fingertips to wash your face. When you are finished, rinse your face off and gently pat your face dry with a clean towel.

#8. Perform a self-exam to check for any skin changes

It’s important to check your skin frequently, perhaps every month in order to spot abnormalities or anything that looks out of place. This way, you can spot something early before it gets out of hand. Of course, this doesn’t replace your annual in-office skin exam performed by a dermatology provider, but it ensures you nip any potential issue in the bud. And if you see a suspicious-looking spot, you need to schedule an appointment ASAP.

#9. Eat healthy foods to promote skin health

A healthy diet is important to overall health, including your skin which is why it’s impossible to curate a list of healthy skin tips without giving consideration to your diet. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. In addition, staying hydrated and drinking plenty of water also helps promote skin health.

#10. See a dermatology provider if you notice any skin changes

Although a dermatologist can be pricy, the value they offer is priceless. They have the knowledge needed to help you with the overall health of your skin.
