On July 1, 2021, Nigerian rapper and BBNaija Lockdown winner, Laycon performed his song “All Over Me” for the Recording Academy, organizers of the Grammy Awards. In the video, the afrobeats talent is seen performing at a Museum, performing his latest hit with an earthy, natural vibe. He is seen in a black hoodie and dark shades with his hair packed in a bun.
The video performance by Laycon is part of a roll-out of Recording Academy at Home an initiative by Grammy organizers to introduce the world to global artists. Laycon’s video comes a month After Omah Lay’s performance debuted.
2. Sha’Carri Richardson suspended for positive marijuana test, barred from signature race at Tokyo Olympics

American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, a medal favorite in the 100-meter dash at the upcoming Olympics, tested positive for marijuana last month and won’t be able to run her signature race at the Tokyo Games. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency announced Friday morning that Richardson had accepted a one-month suspension after testing positive for THC, the primary psychoactive compound of cannabis. The positive test occurred after Richardson won the 100 at U.S. Olympic Trials on June 19.
She has been retroactively disqualified from trials, and her place in the event in Tokyo has been handed to the fourth-place finisher, Jenna Prandini. Gabby Thomas, who finished fifth, will become the alternate. Richardson’s suspension began June 28, meaning she’ll be reinstated in time for all track events at the Olympics. USA Track & Field could still name her to a relay team.
3. South Africa: Kelly Khumalo takes aim at government
South African controversial musician, Kelly Khumalo has taken aim at the government saying South Africans should get rid of those in power. In a video she posted on her Instagram, the singer said South Africans should vote out the “oldies in government” if they want to see change.
“I think it’s time we get rid of those ones who are in power because they feel entitled, they don’t understand the meaning of service. It’s not about them, it’s about people,” she said. “They will keep taking this money because they feel ‘we fought for freedom therefore these people owe us.”
Last week, the “Empini” singer went after men who allegedly use their money to try to control women in the industry.
4. Ghana: Covid-19: Delta variant has entered Ghanaian community
The government of Ghana has revealed that the country has recorded its first-ever Delta Variant of the SARS-Cov-2 virus within its borders. In a press release dated Friday, the Information Ministry said the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed that the undisclosed community reported its cases at 10 am on Friday, July 2.
According to the Information Ministry, the relevant agencies are taking the necessary steps to ensure that spread is contained. It also assured that the affected persons are in good health and have been admitted to the health facilities.
5. Boubakary Soumare: Leicester City sign midfielder from Lille on five-year deal
Leicester City have signed midfielder Boubakary Soumare from Lille on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee, reported to be about £17m. The 22-year-old made 40 appearances for Lille last season, helping them clinch the Ligue 1 title in May. Soumare helped France reach the quarter-finals of the European Under-21 Championship in May and said he is “proud and honoured” to join the Foxes.
Soumare made 104 appearances in four seasons with Lille after joining them from Paris St-Germain, where he started his career as a youth player.
