2. Barack Obama wins NAACP Image Award

Barack Obama’s memoir “A Promised Land” has won NAACP Image Awards for 2021, the organization announced Monday. The NAACP is rolling out its winners for the 52nd NAACP Image Awards this week, revealing a slate of winners across various categories each night leading up until the televised awards show on Saturday, March 27.
Barack Obama’s book “A Promised Land” won Outstanding Literary Work in the Nonfiction category. He is part of the first crop of winners announced in a virtual experience airing each night this week through the NAACP Image Awards website. 3. South Africa sells its supply of one million AstraZeneca vaccines
South Africa has sold its reserve of one million AstraZeneca vaccines on Sunday, marking another controversial moment in the country’s attempted rollout of COVID-19 vaccines. Despite vaccinating fewer than 200,000 people in the last six weeks, Zweli Mkhize has confirmed that one million doses will now leave the country.
This batch was delivered to South Africa early last month. But fears about AstraZeneca’s efficacy against the South African variant of COVID-19 effectively put the brakes on their mass inoculation program. A total of nine member states of the African Union (AU) – as yet to be identified – will receive the dormant doses instead.
4. Ghana grabs another Olympic slot

Ghana’s Shakul Samed, a national amateur boxing team member of the Black Bombers, has secured qualification to 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo later in the year. Shakul, Light Heavyweight (75-81Kg), secured his qualification based on the Boxing Task Force (BTF) rankings released in February 2021, which placed him 10th in the world and 3rd in Africa.
Shakul has joined Flyweight, Sulemanu Tetteh, and Samuel Takyi — Featherweight, bringing the total number of qualified boxers to the Olympic Games to three. The Tokyo Olympics Games were supposed to have been held last July/August 2020 but had to be rescheduled to July/August 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
5. McLaren sign teenager Ugo Ugochukwu to support him through junior categories
McLaren has signed a contract with 13-year-old American karter Ugo Ugochukwu to support him through racing’s junior categories. The Formula 1 team said the agreement gives them an option to sign Ugochukwu to a race deal in the future.
McLaren Racing chief executive officer Zak Brown said: “We’ve been watching Ugo’s progress with interest. So when the opportunity to sign an agreement with him became available, we had no hesitation moving on it.”
Ugochukwu, born in New York and whose mother is Nigerian supermodel, Oluchi Onweagba, won last year’s FIA OK-Junior European championship and graduated to the senior class this season.
