1. Drake makes Billboard chart history
Drake continues to make history, locking down the top three Billboard Hot 100 spots with each song from his latest “Scary Hours 2” release. Last week, the rapper blessed fans with the EP release ahead of his album, “Certified Lover Boy.” The official numbers from sales and streams have come in, and Drake now occupies the top three spots on the Billboard Hot 100, making history as the first artist to accomplish this milestone.
This comes as great news after Drake pushes back his next album’s release due to an injury he sustained to his ACL. Drake broke another tremendous record back in January when he became the first artist in history to break 50 billion streams on Spotify.
2. Nigeria: Emmanuella wins Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards
Nigerian comedienne Emanuella Samuel has been announced the winner of the favorite African social media star category at the just concluded Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice awards. The teen star confirmed her win on Instagram on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. She wrote: “Congratulations to me as I won the Favourite African Social Media Star category at the Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2021. I am so happy to be a winner, thank you! To all my fans out there, I say thank you. To all those who voted for me, I love you so much; this win would not have been possible without you.”
Emanuella’s latest win comes after losing to Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo in 2018 when she was first nominated.
3. South Africa: Prince Kaybee joins #FeesMustFall protests
After weighing in on student protests in Johannesburg last week, musician Prince Kaybee decided to join a march against tertiary education cost on Monday. The SA Congress of Students (SACOS) called for a countrywide shutdown of 26 universities this week as students took to the streets to protest.
As the country geared up for the protests, Kaybee made a post on Twitter asking where he could join the marches. He later arrived at a protest ground in Johannesburg and live-streamed some of it on Instagram. Speaking about the march on social media, Kaybee said he was inspired by those fighting for their future. He urged his followers to support the cause.
4. No reports of blood clots linked to COVID-19 vaccination in Ghana – FDA
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says there has not been any record of blood clots linked to the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccination in Ghana. According to the Authority, although it has received reports of the vaccine’s adverse effects, it has not received any reports of blood clots.
Following reports of blood clots among some persons who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine across the EU and the UK, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Germany, France, Italy, Cyprus, Spain, Latvia, and Sweden, authorities have temporarily suspended the use of the vaccine. Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said there is no evidence that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine causes incidents involving blood clots.
5. Zlatan Ibrahimovic: AC Milan striker recalled by Sweden
Sweden’s record goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been recalled to the national team five years after announcing his retirement. The 39-year-old scored 62 goals in 116 international matches before quitting after the team’s Euro 2016 group-stage exit. He opened the door to a return in a newspaper interview in November 2020, and Sweden coach Janne Andersson then flew to Milan to meet with the striker.
On Thursday, March 25, Sweden faces Georgia before playing Kosovo three days later in their opening two 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Ibrahimovic has responded to Sweden’s announcement of their squad by tweeting: “The return of the God.”
