1. AOC and her fellow ‘Squad’ members all win re-election to Congress
All four members of the progressive “squad” of Democratic congresswomen have handily won re-election.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York popularly known as AOC, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan will return to their seats in the US Congress as they all won their re-election.
The four women of color, who championed ambitious climate action, healthcare for all Americans, and other progressive causes while enduring frequent racism and derision from Donald Trump, will no longer be newcomers to Capitol Hill.
AOC who recently covered Vanity Fair magazine and made Time’s 100 most influential list tweeted about her re-election, “Serving NY-14 and fighting for working-class families in Congress has been the greatest honor, privilege, & responsibility of my life. Thank you to the Bronx & Queens for re-electing me to the House despite the millions spent against us, & trusting me to represent you once more.”
2. Nigeria: Mercy Eke confirms split with her ex, Ike

Finally, the cat has been let out of the bag as the winner of season 4 of Big Brother Naija, Mercy Eke has revealed that she is no longer in a romantic affair or relationship with former BBNaija housemate, Ike Onyema. The two sparked break-up rumors on social media after they both made shady comments at each other and Ike deleting every post he has made about Mercy.
Mercy Eke confirmed breaking up with Ike in a conversation with a follower on Instagram who wanted to know if it is true that she is married and per her response, she ditched Ike over two months ago before she married her new man. According to the multiple brand ambassador, she is happy with her new man who she referred to as ‘Mr. H’ and promised to unveil him to her fans soon.
3. South Africa: Atandwa Kani apologizes for misogynistic statement

“Black Panther” star Atandwa Kani who has been in the industry for more than a decade has thrown massive jabs at “influencer actors” who, according to him, just shook their booties to get a foot in the door. Taking to his Twitter page on Monday, in a now-deleted tweet Kani complained about the fact that he had to study and working for many years in the entertainment industry.
“I wish I had known, before studying for so long, working for 16 years & making life-altering career choices, that all I needed to do is shake my a** to be an influencer, celebrity & a household name. F**k it, it’s your life though,” he tweeted.
However, following backlash from his initial post he retracted his initial statement and said it was supposed to be taken as a joke. Furthermore, stating that it was in bad taste and that people make their own career choices and he sees how what he posted was deemed as insensitive.
4. Ethiopia: Ethiopia PM Abiy Ahmed orders military response to an attack

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has ordered a military offensive to subdue the authorities in Tigray state, following an alleged attack on an army base. Mr. Abiy accused the region’s ruling party, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), of launching the attack. The attack resulted in “many martyrs, injuries and property damage,” he said in a TV address.
The cabinet has declared a state of emergency in the region for six months. The national authorities have also shut down electricity, telephone, and internet services in Tigray.
5. Leeds United’s record signing, Rodrigo, tests positive for COVID-19
Leeds United striker Rodrigo has revealed he has tested positive for COVID-19. The Spain international, 29, missed Monday’s Premier League home defeat by Leicester City as he is self-isolating. He said on Instagram on Tuesday that he had been in close contact with a family member who also tested positive.
“Both my family and I feel great. We are lucky enough to feel healthy and we are keeping a positive attitude,” said the club’s record signing. He will now miss Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace.
